Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 3 Review- You Can Do That?

This was a rather uncomfortable episode for all the right reasons. There were a lot of things happening, but they were all perfectly in sync and flowed very well, giving this episode a complete and independent vibe while still doing a lot for the overall narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed my time watching this, even though it didn’t feel like I should have. There was something sinister afoot hidden in the apparent comic visage of this outing, and I would love nothing more than to talk about it.

First, there is the overinflated ego of Mob, which is extremely unnatural no matter which way you cut it. It produced a lot of comic moments regarding Mob picking off more than he could chew based on, at best, circumstantial evidence that his popularity was getting higher than it was. It was off-putting seeing Mob get hyped up about his non-existent popularity, which is exactly what the writers were going for. A character like him is easy to manipulate, which is what happened in Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 3. There were also several other factors that contributed to it.

The first of them was a coincidence which led to him talking to three (!) girls in a single day. That’s not a lot for most people, but this was a damn near miracle for Mob. The situations because of which that came to be notwithstanding, his normally non-existent ego was posing like a JoJo’s character, which, while hilarious, felt seriously wrong. The people who you would think would set him straight couldn’t accomplish that due to one reason or the other, especially Reigen, who you would expect to put in more effort given what was on the line. Even Dimple made a comeback to contribute, that’s how unfortunate the circumstances were.

Then comes the issue of the Psycho Helmet religion, which has been lurking in the background of all episodes in the form of the giant ugly broccoli that adorns Tokyo’s skyline in the show. It is as disturbing as cults usually are and doesn’t fit the usually upbeat tone of the show. However, that has changed this season for the better, for the world could not have gone by the same way it had after the events that happened at the end of Season 2. However, that comes with the territory of manipulation and shadiness that cults are associated with, and with Mob’s overinflated ego, it is no surprise that he thought he was fit to lead one.

The ending of Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 3 was extremely interesting and left a lot of ways this situation could head towards by the end of this season. The Psycho Helmet Cult is a fascinating way to write a villain in a show like this without making the direction or ending super predictable. Sure, Mob will probably be stronger than whoever stands in his way by the end of it all, but what will be the lesson that he learns in this season? That is the real question, and I can’t wait for it to be answered.
Verdict
Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 3 was uncomfortable and off-putting in the best way possible, as the episode sneaked in on you through the old reliable and pulled the rug from underneath your feet in a way that no one saw coming.
