Deadman Wonderland is one of the best dark shonen anime that hooked fans with its unique premise, good animation, and unrestrained gore. It is a one-of-a-kind show precisely because a classic shonen series tends to avoid too much bloodshed, and Deadman Wonderland did not. Here, the story follows Ganta, who gets dragged into a messy situation after his entire class is killed in front of him, and the blame lands on him.
The series goes on to churn out some hard-hitting twists, but everything falls flat when the conclusion comes. The season concludes without ending the main story, and the series never gets a second season, infuriating fans.
Tokyo Ghoul
No series suffered a greater misfortune than Tokyo Ghoul because of how tragic its fall from grace was. Tokyo Ghoul is hands-down one of the best horror action anime ever, and it got a brilliant first season. It showcased the story of Kaneki, who turns into a human-eating monster after meeting someone who was supposed to be the love of his life.

They spend their time playing and goofing around, but they are not allowed outside of the border that protects them from the unknown.
The Promised Neverland should have been a massive success, but sadly, the second season turns out so bad that it takes the entire franchise down with it.
Attack on Titan
Attack on Titan is a debatable entry here because, for many, the ending was perfect, while others criticise it vehemently. The story revolves around a world where giant creatures, called Titans, roam and feed on humans. The only way to stop them is to live in walled cities, away from their path.
However, one day, something horrifying happens, and the hero, Eren, realizes the need to wipe out all the titans once and for all. The ending was a bittersweet one whose complexity incited many fan theories and comments, which has not stopped to this day.
