Mashle Episode 4 Review- Loving Your Family A Little Too Much

Okay, I will be the first to admit that this was a pretty great outing for the show. After weak offerings for two consecutive weeks, the show has come back with an actually funny and substantial episode with Mashle Episode 4, and I’m glad that it did. I was running out of things to complain about, and this gave us a chance to talk about something positive for once. This episode was also not given a fair start, as it was set to begin with the bizarre quidditch knockoff that wasn’t as interesting as the original game.

However, the show managed to turn that around remarkably well. Not only did the game make more sense than the original game by not involving a flying golden ball that could end the game in a second without the involvement of most of the players in the game, as well as the balls whose entire role in the game is to try and kill the players. Who knew straightforward things could be fun as well? It was also a great parody of the original because it was handled just as it should have been.

The way they used Mash in the game was hilarious as well. Mash has been positioned in the same way as a few other overpowered anime characters we have seen in the past few years. Like Saitama and Gojo, he makes you breathe a sigh of relief that he is fighting for the good side while exploring the comedic side of absolutely demolishing the opponent with ease while barely even trying. Mash is fun to watch because you know he is going to defeat anyone he comes across, and you’re just waiting to see how he does it.

They say that a comedy character is as strong as they need to be in order to make the scene funny, and that logic applies perfectly to Mash. He can kick some serious ass when he needs to, and the writers just need to build up a strong enough character to do that against. They managed to do it in Mashle Episode 4 with Lance. He was a very fun character to introduce the concept of two-line magic users and duels to the show. That brought a lot of intrigue into this episode.

Lance was a great character to build this duel around. He and Mash shared some fantastic chemistry that was apparent in the dialogue and the battle, and his motivations for being the way he is were absolutely perfect. His obsession with his sister doesn’t go beyond simple comedy, and her being the way she is, gives him layers that were missing from most of the show’s characters. Overall, this episode was a massive improvement over the previous one, and I hope the show continues going in this direction.
Verdict
Mashle Episode 4 was a great change of pace from the show’s previous efforts and a remarkable improvement in all departments. It was funny, clever, and built some great lore.
