The Demon Slayers might be struggling, but they aren’t alone, as Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 5 sees another Hashira join the fight to save the Swordsmith village. Let’s see how it goes in this review!
Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 5 Overview

One of the most popular anime of our time, Demon Slayer, is back on our screens with the Swordsmith Village Arc. The newest series follows the 11-episode Season 2 of the show, which you can read all about here. The arc follows Tanjiro as he makes a trip to the swordsmith village to discover why the sword creator won’t remake his sword and meets something mysterious while there. It is to be noted that only the first episode was a double-length episode, followed by standard episodes in the future. You can read our review of the Mugen Train movie while you’re at it. Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba Season 3 Episode 5 Review- Bright Red Sword

Demon Slayer came back at the exact moment in time it needed to. It is handily the most popular anime of this season, new or continuing, and brings a lot to the table. Everyone can find at least something to appreciate about it, even if it has certain missteps that keep it from reaching the upper echelon of critically acclaimed anime. The good parts of this show are extremely good, and this episode was the perfect example of the show’s best as well as its weakest moments. Let’s get to all of them one by one.

The animation and the fight scenes were, as always, gorgeous. The colour contrast between scenes, the vivid nature of the colours in general, the fluidity of motion, and how much effort obviously went into the show make it one of the best-looking shows of our time. Some CGI usage bothers some people, but those flailing fish monsters aren’t that bad, and I can understand why the showrunners decided to do these creatures using CGI instead of hand-drawing them. Making all these move just like the main characters seems to be more trouble than it’s worth.

Mitsuri Kanroji entering the battle was also a legitimately exciting moment, one that was made better by seeing just how good she actually was and how the Hashira title is earned by people who actually possess that level of power. The Demon Slayers have suffered some critical losses, but because of her and another thing that happened in Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village Episode 5, they seem to have more than just a fighting chance now. They might win this.

However, with that, we also reach one of my complaints for Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 5, which is everything that happened with Tanjiro. The show had been keeping a secret from us since Season 1, which was about the significance of Tanjiro’s sword being the colour that it was and what that meant for his skills. We got many answers in this episode, and I’m not sure I’m satisfied with the explanation derived here. It seemed rushed and not really fitting for Tanjiro at the moment, as a lot of what he and Nezuko did in this episode was out of sheer desperation and luck.

Then there is Tokito. There is obviously something in his past that makes him the way he is, but there could be absolutely nothing which would make sense with this sudden change of character he has had in less than half of a season. How has one conversation with Tanjiro led to this much happening to a Hashira in such little time? Tokito was great in this episode, but I wonder if the show plans to kill him off based on everything. Let’s hope not, as I’ve quite enjoyed having him on the screen so far.
Verdict
Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 5 was a monumental outing for various reasons and revealed a few more secrets. The show has proved it never lost its groove, to begin with.

That statement from Tanjiro seems to be lengthy but is actually to provide some new information about the legendary swordsman. And a little hint for us to easily recognize Hinokami Kagura is sun breathing.
It is not luck in despair. The sword turned red is a special token for a new power. To get it requires special criteria and the user must be strong enough. -> proves that Tanjiro practiced a lot. The same goes for the scar on the forehead. And it’s the base where Tanjiro can use the Sun halo dragon. so it’s not luck. It is just the right time.
I hope that part is explained well in the anime, then! Thanks for your comment.
