Pro Bono Episode 6 Recap
The episode begins with everyone in the pro bono team worried and tense that the case will be dismissed. That is when someone comes to inform them that they all have medical checkups. The checkup happens, and this adds a nice, humorous touch to the episode. At the hearing, the pro bono team agrees that Kaya did, in fact, give birth to a child before the marriage. Kaya then goes on to tell the whole truth that when she was 14 years old, she was assaulted by a 32-year-old man and became pregnant. After hearing this, Kaya’s current husband leaves the courtroom after yelling like a madman.
The hearing resumes, and though the pro bono team highlights the sadness behind this situation, the defence points out how this actually has nothing to do with the current case. At that moment, David comes up with some counterarguments, telling how it doesn’t matter what happened in the past, as now Kaya is married to her husband, which cannot be denied. Even David acquiesces that it is common sense that Kaya deceived her husband, yet he appeals to the humane side of the judge. He points out her suffering and suggests how this is a case of a sexually abused child being sexually abused by her father-in-law.

David explicitly tells Kaya how she should not hope for a positive result, and she says that she does not hope for anything. This obviously surprises David. Gi-ppeum also praises David because he went into a battle he knew he would lose, and that is something that a pro bono lawyer should always do. However, something miraculous happens, and David’s team actually wins the case.
After this, David and Gi-ppeum go out for lunch, and there David confronts her. They have a heated discussion about his bribery case, and David willingly keeps their bond sour without trying to mend his relationship with Gi-ppeum. On the other hand, the defence actually files for the case again, and it reopens with a completely different result this time. It comes to light that Kaya actually lived with her kidnapper for a long time and became pregnant while she was still staying with him. This is why the previous judgment was overruled and the marriage actually annulled. Not only that, but the plaintiff is also asked to pay a huge amount of money in compensation.

David decides to go to the Supreme Court, but the hearing becomes worse, and Kaya’s perpetrator basically goes away scot-free. Thus, to stop Kaya’s deportation, David actually files for asylum for her from South Korea. David obviously uses his exceptional skills and lip service to present a formidable case. He even admits to his team that he will lose the trial, but he will make sure that he wins the case in the end.
The conclusion was a bit surprising and, at the same time, confusing because it does not properly address the issue. Plus, Gi-ppeum comes running towards David, claiming that he is innocent without saying why she thinks that way.

Pro Bono Episode 6 Review
I liked this episode and how it dealt with a very sensitive case. The episode was emotional and, at the same time, had a powerful message behind it. Other than that, I would have liked to know a bit more about the secret revelation in the end.
