Chainsaw Man Episode 8 Review- Oh Boy

This is a beautiful show to watch. We have come extraordinarily far with animation quality in the past decade, with almost every show being at least decent to look at and showcasing a lot of character with whatever budget was afforded to them. However, some go much, much higher than the others in the levels of animation quality that they offer, and Chainsaw Man deserves mention in every single conversation that revolves around our advancement in the field of animation. Let’s go a little deeper into what this show does so differently from the others of its kind.

It is not always about how many frames there are or how much detail is put into each one. It is not even how smooth and natural your movement looks or how many angles you use in your action scenes. It is a combination of all of them and a little vision from the person writing the scene to be like it is. Direction is an aspect of anime that is seldom talked about but is extraordinarily important to how it turns out. Chainsaw Man has great direction, which is immediately obvious from every animated frame that you take from it. It might not be to your taste, but it is there.

Chainsaw Man looks unlike everything else that is on our screens right now, and no one could ever claim that its aesthetic isn’t wholly unique to it. A lot goes into aesthetics as a whole, from the presentation to the art, music, and storytelling of the art project. Make no mistakes; Chainsaw Man is art, even if you don’t think it is good art. This episode showcased a lot of what this show is all about and the reason it was created in the first place. It is just that I don’t want to talk about or even hint about what happened because the less you know about it going in, the better.

A lot happened in Chainsaw Man Episode 8, and a precious few of it can be talked about without ruining the entire experience of going through it. I can say that what happened was unexpected, but saying anything beyond that would be unhelpful to you on a good day and aggravating on a bad one. I can also say that I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than the previous episode, but that also doesn’t mean much when I thought that it was the worst thing to ever come out from the show.

All of Squad 4 did a great job in this episode, and the plot thread between Himeno and Denji was handled quite maturely by all parties. Everything appeared to run exactly as you would expect it to for a while, which was already a nice change of pace from how this show usually operates. The animation and music were great, as we already discussed, and half of the episode we absolutely can’t talk about beyond me telling you to go ahead and watch it as soon as you can. It is worth it.
Verdict
Chainsaw Man Episode 8 was a breath of fresh air and came out of absolutely nowhere to knock the wind out of everyone who watched it. Whether it was necessary is another question altogether, but let’s just enjoy the ride while it lasts.
