HBO’s Succession Season 3 Episode 8 Recap: Chiantishire

It is hard to accept but Succession Season 3 Episode 8 is surely a cruel sign that the show is coming to an end. The series created by Jesse Armstrong flaunts winning numerous Emmy awards over its last two seasons. The satirical black-comedy drama has weekly episodic releases with a runtime of an hour. The cast includes Brian Cox as CEO of Waystar RoyCo Logan Roy, Jeremy Strong as Kendall Roy, Kieran Culkin as Roman Roy, and Sarah Snook as Shiv (aka Siobhan Roy), Alan Ruck as Connor Roy, Matthew Macfadyen as Tom Wambsgans and Nicholas Braun as Greg Hirsch.

Succession Season 3 Episode 8: A luxe family wedding in Italy

After Kendall’s lavish birthday party, which can be reasoned out to be just a way to cherish Melanie Martinez’s song Pity Party in real life, we are arriving closer to ‘what is the deal with this season exactly?’ Shiv’s estranged, not like Kendall but, close. Roman is, well, a literal favourite of Logan Roy and we can’t seem to understand ‘why’ even though we do know ‘how’. Tom and Greg are doing their own thing as the former are being traumatized at every step and, the latter is being used- nothing new, exactly. And, maybe, Connor could win the elections even though his father has clearly not backed him.

Iconic to every season of Succession, we have another distant luxurious event and it happens to be Logan’s former wife, Caroline’s Tuscan wedding (played by Harriet Walter). For the ones who have forgotten who Caroline is because Marcia took the front seat in the show for the longest time- she is the mother to Kendall, Roman and Shiv. The wedding disaster ends up in Kendall killing a man and even though this one comes no close, it is still a lovely horrible Roy family mess.

Gerri draws the line for Roman as she arrives with Laurie as her date. Shiv and Tom again go through their toxic love patch which ends with the former saying, “I may not love you but I do love you”. Well, if you don’t feel bad for Tom yet, then Shiv wanting to freeze her eggs after telling Tom she’d like to have his babies is surely going to get you in the zone. Kendall and Logan are, of course, civil but not without their nuanced ways to get back to each other.

Meanwhile, new golden boy Roman continues on his quest to pursue Alexander Skarsgård’s Lukas Matsson to sell his company to Waystar which ends in Matsson wanting a “merger of equals” deal. But, this good news from Succession Season 3 Episode 8 does not come without its own mess when Roman just sends the wrong text to the wrong person and his sister, Shiv leaps in to make things worse for him.

Succession Season 3 Episode 8: Final Thoughts

As far as we can tell, Kendall does not want to fight anymore. He clearly isn’t in a good place to keep in the loop with this cat and mouse game. Meanwhile, Shiv is all game but for all the wrong reasons. Fighting a fellow Roy does no good, didn’t she learn anything Kendall? It will be exciting to see how the show ends in its final episode coming up next week.
