The second season of The Recruit was released today and the series is just as wacky and entertaining as one would expect. It follows Owen once again as he gets himself embroiled in an espionage mission in South Korea that goes horribly wrong, resulting in him and an NIS agent trying to right the wrongs. Along the way, he realises that the real threats might just be coming from the Agency.

The Recruit Season 2 Ending Explained
Secrets, spies and treason – The Recruit season 2 is 6 hours of adventure and mayhem that starts from the end of the last season with Owen and Nichika Lashin getting picked up by the CIA after Max Meladze’s murder. Now asked to not do anything until an investigation is over, Owen suddenly gets a graymail from someone in South Korea threatening to leak 10 years’ worth of secrets to the world if he doesn’t come to help. With Walter Nyland’s blessing and a babysitter, Janus Ferber, in tow, the two of them go off to South Korea to figure out who is threatening them.
After their first meeting with the NIS boss Grace doesn’t go well and now followed by another NIS agent Jang Kyu, Owen finds a mysterious letter in his room asking him to go to a nightclub to meet the graymailer. Once inside the club, a sudden bar fight brings him in front of Jang Kyu once more, who reveals himself to be the graymailer. He blackmails Owen and tells him that the latter needs to help him out to save his wife who has apparently been kidnapped by the Russians.
Helpless, Owen talks to Walter once again who has no other option but to ask him to look into the kidnapping. He asks Nichika to look into the matter for a price and she brings intel that it’s actually the yakuza who has kidnapped her. Nichika is tasked to look into the mess further and tells him that Nan-hee is being held in Russia. In the midst of this, Dawn, who has been shipped off somewhere discreet for her involvement in last season’s adventures, tries to get Owen and Lester killed in order to keep her secrets safe. The plan doesn’t work and she comes back to the States with Dodge to finish the job.
Out of options and with all of their identities out in the open, Owen, Lester and Jang Kyu decide to team up in order to save Nan-hee. Unfortunately, going up against the yakuza in Russia isn’t an easy feat and they team up with Dawn and her team to have a fair fighting chance.
The Recruit Season 2 Episode 6
In The Recruit Season 2 finale, the operation to save Nan-hee obviously goes sideways and Dawn isn’t able to swoop in to save Owne and Jang Kyu on time. They are forced to pivot, resulting in Owen jumping out of the boat and Jang Kyu and Nan-hee being captured. The CIA decides to save themselves and refuses to know about the mission and Owen. However, Owen is able to save himself and asks Lester to send Nichika to save him, who turns out is also selling them out to the Russians. The plan doesn’t work and Owen knocks her out. In the end, he is able to save both Jang Kyu and Nan-hee and Nichika ends up killing Dawn as the latter was trying to shoot them down. As they are getting out of the mess on Yoo Jin-lee’s boat, they are followed by the Russian coast guards. Thankfully, when the US Navy comes to their rescue, they are quick to run away.
The episode ends with Owen recruting Jang Kyu because they he can never go back to Korea after this and the two of them also end up becoming friends.
The Recruit Season 3: Is It Happening?
Although the second season doesn’t end on a cliffhanger as such, it is safe to say that it does leave room for the story to progress. With Owen recruiting Jang Kyu to the CIA, the series has potential to expand on this new dynamic and give us more action. However, there is no official word as of yet, but we will update this post if and when that happens!
