The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 5 Recap Contains Spoilers

In The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 5, Wrecker and Omega are out to find a spare compressor at a junkyard. They also carry other spare junk along with them. One is a compass with coordinate markings in the Kaldar Trinary System. Echo has no record of that system. Phee tells them that the compass is a rare find.

They all think of using the compass to find a treasure. Hunter, Wrecker, Echo, Tech, Omega and Phee travel to an uncharted planet to seek the treasure. When they land, Tech tells them that he is not picking up any signs of civilisation. The compass gets activated and helps them walk in the direction of the treasure (if any).

They follow the directions the compass keeps showing them, but they reach a dead end (a mountain). Phee tells them that they have to go inside. With Wrecker’s help, she moves all the rocks covering the secret entrance inside the mountain. Tech tells them that the etchings are more than a thousand years old. Phee recognises them and reveals that they’re standing in the entranceway to Skara Nal.

Phee reveals that the Skara Nal traces back to the ancients, older than the Jedi. She tells them that the treasure they’re looking for is the Heart of the Mountain. They align the symbols in the right pattern on a wall to enter more inside the mountain. But it turns out to be a booby trap. They keep looking for another way out.

Omega tells them that they’ve been aligning the wrong symbols. She tells them some of the symbols are glowing. They all finally get it right and enter deeper inside the mountain. Omega asks Phee about the Heart of the Mountain, and Phee tells her that it’s a rare crystalline stone, a key to an ancient power.

Tech informs Hunter that he has run a preliminary analysis of the minerals in the stone slabs, and they predate the Republic. He believes that Phee is on to something. Suddenly, it’s quiet, and they all get attacked by a giant monster. Together, they defeat the monster, but the debris separates Omega, Phee and Hunter and Echo, Tech and Wrecker.

Hunter, Omega and Phee carry on with their search of finding the heart of the mountain. Phee wonders why everything’s so easy inside, and suddenly, Hunter steps on a surface that almost takes him down. Omega and Phee save him. Hunter is not pleased with Phee’s adventure and tells her they’ve almost died because of her three times. He wants everyone to get out safely as soon as possible.

Suddenly, the huge door in front of them opens, and they walk towards it. The compass gets stuck in debris, and Phee tells Omega that Skaar Nal has reclaimed it as it served its purpose. They have to navigate the search without any help. Tech is trying to get track of where the three are. He believes that something is interfering with his scanners. They walk and end up at the same place where Omega, Phee and Hunter are.

They all open the door and walk inside to get to the Heart of the Mountain. When Phee takes the crystal, everything starts shaking, like an earthquake. Lighting emits from inside the mountain to the top. It turns out it was not a treasure or a mountain but a huge machine. Tech tells Phee that she has to keep the crystal back to deactivate whatever they’re standing inside.

The monster they fought earlier returns. While Phee returns to keep the crystal in its place, others fight the monster. The huge machine emits light and fire-like energy, causing more disturbance and chaos. They all succeed in defeating the mountain again. Tech is trying his best to find a way out of the machine.

When they use the stone to control the machine, it crumbles, and everything starts falling apart. Thankfully, Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Echo, Omega and Phee are safe, but not Mel. Hunter is glad that no one can activate that big machine again.

Omega feels sorry for what happened to Mel, but Phee tells her it always happens. Phee keeps Mel’s memory stored in her ship’s data bank. Phee says that she will get her rebuilt before they head to Vadnay.

When Omega asks what’s on Vadnay, Phee tells them she has a lead on a certain ancient chalice. She tells Omega that the chalice once belonged to the Kingdom of Elweys. Hunter is done with Phee’s stories. They all fly back to Ord Mantell.

The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 5 Review: Final Thoughts

Today’s episode had nothing major to discuss. Except for giving us an idea about who Phee is, there was little we see affecting the series ahead. It was a fun adventure and a break from the deadly missions for the characters and us.

The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 5 is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
