The new action thriller Pathaan revolves around the story of an Indian Spy who returns from the dead to stop a nuclear attack on India. The film features Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role and marks his comeback after the 2018 Romance Comedy Zero. Moreover, the film is helmed by Siddharth Anand and written by Shridhar Raghavan.
The complete cast of the film includes John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Ashutosh Rana and Dimple Kapadia. Furthermore, the movie is produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
-Pathaan Review Does Not Contain Spoilers-
The great Roger Ebert once noted, “Your intellect may be confused, but your emotions will never lie to you.” This a great testament that anyone should abide by while watching the phenomenon of Pathaan unfold. A celluloid festival that transports you to the near-perfect world of Shah Rukh Khan. Where the faintest dialogue generates the loudest cheer, and a mere hint of an expression, draws the most selfless round of claps that you’ll ever witness in your life.
To be precise, it’s not a film. It’s an event. And events don’t need a detailed analysis of what went right, or what went south. It’s simply an occasion to celebrate the magic of movies and the cult of mass cinema. Something which I have dearly missed for a long time.
How do you describe the full-throttle impact of Shah Rukh Khan in Pathaan? Well, for starters, you don’t, because there is no way to put those feelings in words. It’s like an experience of a lifetime, that demands to be witnessed.
I don’t have answers. I have many questions. Why are you so massive Mr Khan, that every frame of your appearance turns into a motion picture in itself? Why does the most cliche of twists and turns expand into the eleventh commandment of truth and believability? Why do I need to adore the cinematic glory in your eyes during each and every close-up shot? And why is it that I cannot leave the theatre without selflessly participating in the chants of your honour? These are the questions that transcend beyond my limited understanding of criticism and cinema itself. This is exactly what they mean when they define the symbolism of Shah Rukh Khan.

For those still interested in the element of movie reviews. The plot of the movie revolves around a highly dedicated Indian Spy who is sent on a mission to curtail the advances of a terror outfit. In the process, he encounters the head of the group Jim (played by John Abraham). A rogue RAW agent with the sole purpose of reciprocating the feeling of hopelessness, as part of his ultimate revenge scheme.
The rest of the film finds Pathaan fighting against all odds (with the dubious involvement of an ISI agent Rubina, played by Deepika Padukone) to protect his nation and its people.
The best way to describe the performances in the film is co-relate my words with the theatrical reactions. I know this sounds a little biased, but what is acting if not emoting feelings to the audience? Moreover, something this film does in such a terrific manner is that each character has moments of hooting followed by a plethora of whistles. Even though we know who the big show is, there is no partiality in the dialogue space for each role.
The script makes sure that it doesn’t turn the tide in the favour of mundane aspects, and sticks strongly to the awe-worthy moments. Shridhar Raghavan’s screenplay is the driving force of the flick, which makes sure it stays on track with the relevant nuances. All in all, the phenomena of SRK shine brighter than ever and quenches the thirst for some good old commercial cinema.
