My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 5 Recap

It turns out Koichi once invited his classmates over, but his home was in such poor condition that they assumed he had sinister intentions. These days, however, with Knuckleduster and Pop Step regularly by his side, Koichi no longer feels isolated. Interestingly, the story also reveals that Pop Step actually knew Koichi before they became close.
Back when Koichi was headed to take his hero school exams, he ended up being late because he stopped to help a child in need. Unbeknownst to him, that child was actually Pop. While Koichi never made the connection, Pop recognised him and began spending time with him out of gratitude. She hopes to one day thank him properly, but her shyness keeps holding her back.

The episode also introduces a new character with a twisted view of justice. Though not a licensed hero, he acts on his own beliefs, eliminating anyone he sees as a threat. He does step in to save Koichi at one point, but Knuckleduster warns that people who act solely on personal morals can become dangerous. This proves true soon after, as the vigilante executes a villain without hesitation. Even Hachisuka notices his unpredictability and begins to consider how she might manipulate him for her own ends.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Episode 6 Review

Today’s episode starts with Stendhal delivering justice by killing a bunch of Yakuza members. However, it becomes apparent that he sees the world in a lot more white-and-black fashion and does not think that bad guys can also be good or turn good. Here, we see that he is also helping Hachisuka, collecting blood samples while eradicating bad people. It is very obvious that Hachisuka is using him to do her own bidding, and he is utilising her to get information on people who, according to him, are villainous.
Here, Soga, the villain who tried to harass Pop Step, is seen as pretty disturbed by the fact that his friends got gravely injured after they were on drugs. He’s also concerned about Stendhal and him targeting anyone with a bad reputation. But later, he falls into the trap of Hachisuka, who makes Stendhal fight against Soga, and he realises how he got used by her. Hachisuka goes on to stab Soga with multiple shots of the trigger drug and makes him into a monster.

This is where things become very interesting because Koichi comes in and, seeing Stendhal trying to kill Soga for real, tries to help Soga out. Doing this, he also makes an enemy of Stendhal and gets gravely injured. However, Knuckleduster comes right at the moment to save him. Thus, an intense and interesting fight ensues between him and Stendhal.
Stendhal is none other than Stain himself, and that was revealed in this episode. We also notice where one of his ideologies about pretentious people being worse than villains comes from. It is very interesting to witness Vigilantes building up on the originally established lore of My Hero Academia and developing it.
Verdict

I loved this episode even more than the previous ones, as it gave us some very important info about the background of Stain. The storyline is also a lot darker than the original My Hero Academia, which makes Vigilantes more mature and gritty.
