Adapting the storyline of the Newberry-winning children’s book by Ruth Stiles Gannett, My Father’s Dragon comes from the Academy Award-nominated animation studio Cartoon Saloon. The Breadwinner‘s Academy Award-nominated director Nora Twomey brings this tale to life, with Gaten Matarazzo, Jacob Tremblay, Leighton Meester, and more voicing the characters.
Netflix has just released the trailer of this upcoming children’s tale as an animated rendition, adding colors to the pre-established characters of the book. In a simplistic animated visual, we get to see young Elmer immerse himself in his new life in the city. However, it fails to quench his desire for happiness which can only be satiated by an adventurous turn.

In his search for joy and a mystical island, he comes face to face with a dragon named Boris. They both tread into “dangerous, wild, strange” territory and must do it all to save the island. No matter what happens, the two are going to stick together and accomplish the task at hand. The story is not so much about the island being saved as it is about them finding a life-long friendship in each other.
This November, take a plunge into the adventurous tale of friendship and family as Elmer and Boris’ paths collide. In this heartfelt, feel-good account of friends having each other’s back, you might even find a sense of relatability and hope that was missing from your life earlier. After all, friendship doesn’t see if you’re a dragon or not, all that matters is your heart.

Netflix’s official synopsis of the animated film reads:
Struggling to cope after a move to the city with his mother, Elmer runs away in search of Wild Island and a young dragon who waits to be rescued. Elmer’s adventures introduce him to ferocious beasts, a mysterious island and the friendship of a lifetime.
