Stranger Things Season 5 Ending Explained

At the end of season 4, the kids found themselves celebrating the death of Vecna after they seemingly sent him back to the Upside Down. However, that’s not the case, as we see in season 5 that Vecna is still well and planning his next move. The four gates, opened last season, are destroying Hawkins by polluting everything in its path, and the barrier between the worlds is collapsing – fast. Clearly, the kids need to do something before humanity ceases to exist, but there’s another problem – the government really wants their hands on Eleven. Now under military quarantine, the kids have to stay undercover to find a solution to the Vecna problem.

The Kali reveal

The biggest event for volume 1 is the raid on the military lab in the Upside Down, operated by Dr Kay. Hopper and Eleven go to the lab in hopes of rescuing those trapped inside and neutralising the threat, thinking that Vecna is the one behind the lab’s huge powers.

However, after infiltrating the lab, the two stumble upon a dramatic twist – the person in the cell is Kali/008, Eleven’s sister, whom we met in season 4. Shockingly, Dr Kay has been using her as a pawn in her game and has been hoping to use her to neutralise Eleven. The betrayal leaves them shocked. In the end, Hoppper almost dies, but, of course, not really, although he does deliver a rousing speech.

Max and Holly in Vecna’s mind

Meanwhile, Max stumbles upon Holly in Vecna’s mind, where she has been since being killed by Vecna and resurrected by Eleven. There, she warns Holly about everything Vecna has planned. Max has been wandering in Vecna’s mind since she has been in a coma and has learnt a lot about him, including his fears. She, thus, has found a cave that has bad memories for him and brings Holly there to save her from Vecna.

However, Holly isn’t the only person who has been kidnapped by Vecna – several children find themselves trapped in Vecna’s memories, a psychological war that he’s playing to control the children and, eventually, the world.

After filling Max in on Vecna’s true intentions, she sends Holly back into Vecna’s mind and tells her not to make waves so that Vecna isn’t able to figure out Max’s existence in his mind. Meanwhile, she remains somewhere in between reality and memories until she can be rescued. However, this storyline remains unsolved for now.

Will’s telekinetic powers

As the lab incident with Eleven opens up, Will and the others try to rescue the kids lured by Mr Whatsit, who is Vecna in disguise. However, the attempt isn’t an easy deal as Demogorgons roam free around them and try to kill the rescuers. When all hope seems lost, Will unleashes his telekinetic powers and decimates the entities, saving everyone in one huge burst. His powers mirror Eleven’s, having picked them up while living so close to Vecna and the Upside Down.

The moment reframes the entire show in one swoop, turning Will’s character arc upside down (heh) and reaffirming that this is what everything that he has gone through was always supposed to end up with. This is what he was meant to be all along, as he reminds himself to accept who he is and be at peace with himself.

Stranger Things Season 5 Predictions: What’s Next?

With the stage set, the key questions seem to be manifold – we are left to wonder about Will’s powers and whether they will hold. Is it dangerous, unstable or tied to something darker? What does this mean for his relationship with the others, and will this corrupt his mind in any way? Plus, his connection to Vecna might prove dangerous to himself and those around him now.

Another burning question is whether or not Max will be able to leave Vecna’s mind palace. Will she be able to get out? Will Holly? And what would that mean for them? Will they retain their memories or come back as a new person? Will they need to be rescued, and, if so, who will reach them before it’s too late?

Moreover, with Kay and the military making leaps to find Eleven and destroy Hawkins, who will find Vecna – and how? How will Vecna be defeated and, more importantly, with the kids now in different places, how will they regroup and fight together to bring an end to the violence? In the end, will Hawkins survive is upcoming ordeal?

The questions are many, and we have to wait a long time for the answers. Hopefully, they are satisfying!

  1. Why does this site like to explain and spoil the end and other deaths…some people like me watching the last two parts right now or just getting started, and would avoid it, i recommend hide this and other articles after the show is really finished,

Then burn the script so never existed in this world ever again…some parts are just plain boring or awful done…and stupid….
