The Staircase Episode 8 will mark the final episode of HBO Max’s latest true-crime drama. The miniseries is created by The Devil All The Time’s Antonio Campos and, is based on the 2004 true-crime docuseries of the same name created by Jean-Xavier de Lestrade. The show has garnered much praise in the past weeks as the episodes got a weekly release. Audiences have been applauding the cast and the narrative of how the makers have steered the ship of the infamous trial of novelist Michael Peterson.
The cast features Colin Firth as Michael Peterson, Toni Collette as Kathleen Peterson, Michael Stuhlbarg as David Rudolf, Dane DeHaan as Clayton Peterson, Olivia DeJonge as Caitlin Atwater, Patrick Schwarzenegger as Todd Peterson, Sophie Turner as Margaret Ratliff, Odessa Young as Martha Ratliff, Rosemarie DeWitt as Candace Hunt Zamperini, Tim Guinee as Bill Peterson, Parker Posey as Freda Black, Juliette Binoche as Sophie Brunet and, Vincent Vermignon as Jean-Xavier. In the last episode, we saw Sophie and Michael’s relationship face some turmoil and Margeret and Martha’s search for their past.
However, the episode also shed a considerable amount of light on the scams committed by the SBI to support the DA’s office and make it win cases. This gives a new trajectory to Michael’s case as the SBI was one major witness against him in the case, whose findings did sway the jury’s ultimate verdict.

The Staircase Finale: What Happens Next?
In the final episode of The Staircase, we might finally bridge the gap between the 2011 retrial and the 2017 (present-day) plea. How David is going to angle the case and how it will help Michael remains in the curtains of the final episode, and so does the fate of Michael and Sophie’s relationship. As for Margaret, we might just see her discover something from her past and her struggle to come to terms with it.

The final episode of this true-crime miniseries will air on June 9, 2022. The episode is titled ‘America’s Sweetheart or: Time Over Time’. It will be available on HBO Max.
