Under the Banner of Heaven: Has Hulu Renewed the True Crime Drama For a Second Season?

Under the Banner of Heaven Season 2 seems like the one chant every Andrew Garfield fan is religiously repeating. Hulu’s latest true-crime drama seems to have impressed audiences all over the world with its charismatic acting performances, strong yet scary narrative and themes which reflect the struggle between faith and religion. Directed by the Academy award-winning director Dustin Lance Black, who is best known for his work in films such as Milk and J. Edgar, the series is based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Jon Krakauer.

Recounting the story of the modern-day double murder committed by fundamentalist Mormons in name of God that took place in the state of Utah in 1984, Under the Banner of Heaven flaunted a stellar cast. Spider-Man famed Andrew Garfield headlined the show as a Mormon detective Jeb Pyre along with Sam Worthington as Ron Lafferty, Daisy Edgar-Jones as Brenda Lafferty, Denise Gough as Dianna Lafferty, Wyatt Russell as Dan Lafferty, Billy Howle as Allen Lafferty, Chloe Pirrie as Matilda Lafferty, Seth Numrich as Robin Lafferty, Adelaide Clemens as Rebecca Pyre, Rory Culkin as Samuel Lafferty, Sandra Seacat as Josie Pyre and Gil Birmingham as Detective Bill Taba.

After the overwhelming finale, fans have been going crazy over the brilliance of the series. A lot of the viewers are even demanding a season two. But, has Hulu renewed the show for another season? Or, cancelled it altogether? Let us find out!

Under the Banner of Heaven Season 2: When Will It Release?

Consisting of seven episodes, the finale of Under the Banner of Heaven aired on June 2, 2022, marking the capture of brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty, who killed their sister-in-law Brenda Lafferty and her baby daughter Erica. Throughout the season we were challenged to understand the contrasting psyche of different characters as well as the way Mormon teachings have been perceived over the years. The episode ended with Garfield’s Jeb Pyre sharing a moment with his mother as they watch the sun on the horizon but, did not go further into the trial and outcome of the Lafferty case.

Although there is no official announcement for Under the Banner of Heaven Season 2 as the show is supposed to be a miniseries or a limited series, one can still expect a season two covering the Lafferty trial and how the case has affected Jeb in his life. Given Black is a masterful screenplay writer, it will not be surprising to see him pop with a season two, especially after the fanfare the show has received.
