The Law According to Lidia Poët Trailer: Matilda De Angelis Investigates Murder and Injustice to Become Italy’s First Female Lawyer

The Law According to Lidia Poët Trailer unveils more details about the upcoming Italian Period crime mystery drama. The series is created by Guido Iuculano & Davide Orsini and directed by Letizia Lamartire, and Matteo Rovere. The teleplay is written by Elisa Dondi, Daniela Gambaro & Paolo Piccirillo and the story is brought to the screen by cinematographers Vladan Radovic and Francesco Scazzosi.

The cast of the series includes Matilda De Angelis in the titular role along with, Eduardo Scarpetta, Pier Luigi Pasino, Sinead Thornhill, Dario Aita and Sara Lazzaro. There are said to be 6 episodes in this light procedural drama, reinterpreting the true story of Lidia Poët, Italy’s first female lawyer.

The official synopsis of the series reads, “In this gripping period drama, Lidia Poët investigates murders while fighting to practice law. Inspired by the true story of Italy’s first female lawyer.” Set in Turin in the late 1800s. A ruling by the Turin Court of Appeals declares Lidia Poët’s admission to the bar association unlawful, thus preventing her from practising law simply because she is a woman.

In the trailer, we see that she is a woman of passion both in her career and love life, but the career aspect isn’t going so well. She is only approached by women who think she charges less money or in other words, less than a man and could help them easily. But with the court ruling, she is left to find an alternative career or challenge the ruling.

She is left penniless but full of pride, leading Lidia to secure a job at her brother Enrico’s law firm while she prepares an appeal to overturn the court ruling. In an approach that’s ahead of its time, Lidia assists criminal suspects by searching for the truth behind outward appearances and preconceptions. Lidia’s brother-in-law, Jacopo, a mysterious journalist, passes her information and introduces her to the hidden worlds that lurk beneath a flamboyant Turin.

On the way, she gets indulged in investigating a murder, where Lidia is all out to catch the culprit but not everyone is on her side and often disregards her finding. But isn’t discouraged and is determined to get what she wants. The intriguing series is based on the true story of the first modern female Italian advocate, whose disbarring led to a movement to allow women to practice law and hold public office in Italy.
