One Punch Man Season 3 has been getting criticism after criticism for its disastrous adaptation, and fans are not wrong to hate it. When the first season dropped in 2015, people believed that One Punch Man would change the anime scene with its parody-heavy humour and unique protagonist. It also came with gorgeous animation, and people were sure the series would end up becoming a hit. However, things did not go according to this theory at all.

What happened after One Punch Man Season 1?

The first season of One Punch Man was handled by Madhouse, the acclaimed studio known for creating classic hits such as Death Note and Monster. They are known for breathtaking animation, producing a great narrative structure and overall exceptional adaptation. Thus, it is no wonder they did a phenomenal job with One Punch Man Season 1, making it a memorable show for the fans who completely fell in love with it right away.
However, when it came to adapting the second season, Madhouse backed out of the project and let other production companies come in to take their chances. That is when J.C.Staff won the rights for One Punch Man, and this was where everything changed for the worse. J.C.Staff is also a really good animation studio, but they primarily work with rom-com or slice of life anime like Toradora! and have very little arsenal of action-packed series like One Punch Man.

Hence, it is no wonder that the animation of the series was not as good as its first season. The overall quality significantly dropped in the second season, and fans were not happy about it. The second season of One Punch Man was not bad, but again, it lacked the fluid animation that was so synonymous with the franchise. Yet, it was decent enough and was still accepted as a watchable series. But One Punch Man season 3 is an entirely different case because it is the worst out of all three instalments that we have seen till now.

One Punch Man Season 3 Can’t be Saved Anymore

The third season of One Punch Man is getting directed by a new director who has very little experience working with an action anime. Though he has definitely tried his best with the product, the production budget must have been too low because the end result is not at all exemplary. In the very first episode, we get to see some stagnant and static shots of characters speaking without any movement. They just sit in one place and keep on talking about their plans, as that would require less animation than necessary.
Many scenes are also lifted almost directly from the manga, with minimal new input from the animation team, likely a result of budget constraints or tight production deadlines. The infamous scene of Garou sliding down the side of a hill is still getting trolled, for there is no friction on the ground, and it just looks like he’s hovering and descending. I honestly thought that Garou’s PNG image was being used to create an illusion of him moving.

This season definitely deserved better treatment because it will cover the monster association arc, which is one of the biggest and most important arcs for the franchise. Here, Garou will become a monster, and he will fight against Saitama in a one-on-one battle. It will be the deadliest and toughest battles, which will require genuine visual brilliance. Not only that, the fight will happen at a cosmic level, so grandness is something that all the fans will expect. However, the way One Punch Man Season 3 looks so far, I am pretty sure that we are all going to be disappointed in the end.
