My Demon Episode 12 Recap

The episode starts with Gu-won’s memories, where we see how he used to be the son of a very well-respected family in a small village. One day, when taking a break from his studies, he encounters a beautiful girl, Do-hee and becomes mesmerised while watching her dance with swords in the forest. When she notices him, she becomes wary of his presence and leaves without disclosing her identity. But from his servant, Gu-won gets to know that her name is Woshim, and she is a courtesan who recently moved to his village.

After that, Gu-won starts to pretend to study in her dancing spot and looks at her while she dances. Slowly, they both become attracted to each other, and one day, when he risks his life to get her shoe that fell off the cliff, they become closer than ever. When Gu-won expresses his love, Woshim reminds him they both come from very different backgrounds and can never be together.

After that, Gu-won finds out about Catholicism, where everyone is equal and inspires Woshim to follow catholic teachings with him. Sadly, his servant discloses this to his father. One day, Gu-won leaves the village for some work, and before leaving, he gives a cross locket to Woshim, promising never to forget her.

On the other hand, tension is brewing amongst the villagers, cause of the spread of Catholicism. In the name of stopping the Catholic influence, many people are getting killed, and that is when Gu-won’s father decides to sacrifice only one person so that their entire village can be saved. Woshim gets captured as the only Catholic in the village. She was asked about the origin of her locket, but she refused to disclose Gu-won’s name and sacrificed herself for him. Gu-won comes to save Do-hee/Woshim but is too late, and after seeing his dying lover, in a fit of rage, he kills everyone present there before committing suicide. After that, Gu-won wakes up in the present day looking haggard.

He tells Do-hee about his past, having a lover called Woshim, but omits her identity as Woshim. He then goes to God and angrily confronts her about how she has treated him badly when he believed in her in his past life. God refuses accusations and tells him he’s the one who chose this life, and she also mentions that fate has brought him and Do-hee together because their sad outcome might repeat again.

On the other hand, we see Se-ra visiting her son in jail, and when confronted about how she knew his father’s abuses but did nothing, she blames him for not abiding by him. Do-gyeong becomes enraged and is taken away, only to be later found dead in his cell. Do-hee is shocked to find this out and is suspicious of Seok-min’s behaviour about this whole scenario.

But we see Se-ra being absolutely devastated about her son’s death, and finally becoming sick of her husband’s evil deeds. Then we see Ga-young preparing for her last performance, at Sunwol Foundation and parting ways on good terms, from both Gu-won and Do-hee. While Ga-young performs, Gu-won gets flashbacks and becomes emotional, and Do-hee asks him about it. He tells her how he became the reason his lover died in the past and is afraid that this might happen again in this life where Do-hee will suffer because of him. But she reassures him that she can only suffer if she is without him, and Gu-won promises to never face the same tragic fate with her in this life.

My Demon Episode 12 Recap and Review A Harrowing Past

In the end, we get a shocking revelation. Cheon-sook actually saw someone at the scene of Do-hee’s parents’ death whom she called the devil all her life. That happens to be Gu-won, who likely made a contract with Do-hee’s parents, and because of that, the accident happened, and he collected their souls.

My Demon Episode 12 Review

This episode was great as we see Gu-won’s past the entire first half of the episode. Seok-min also turns out to be the most despicable villain ever. I would love to see what his actual motives are.

The last twist was seriously unexpected, and now I fear what might happen if Do-hee finds out about Gu-won’s involvement with her parent’s death.

The series is streaming on Netflix right now.
