Moving in With Malaika Episode 16 premiered on December 29, 2022, with a runtime of approximately 25 minutes. The brand new reality show will centre around actress, model, dancer and VJ Malaika Arora. Created by Malaika herself, along with Banijay Asia, the show will give us an exclusive and up-close look at the life of the Indian celebrity.
The actress rose to fame for her appearance in the famous Bollywood song Chaiyyan Chaiyyan from the movie Dil Se along with Shah Rukh Khan. She has been in the public eye ever since, and her divorce from Arbaaz Khan, brother of Salmaan Khan, is one of the most talked about instances around the town. She has also been a victim of internet trolls following her dating news with Arjun Kapoor.
Hence, she has decided to take matters into her own hands and create a show that will show her true self.
Disney+ Hotstar description of the show reads:
ALL SET TO SHOWCASE HER TRUE SELF, MALAIKA WILL SHUT DOWN TROLLS IN HER QUINTESSENTIAL ARORA STYLE AS SHE OPENS UP ABOUT HER LIFE
-Moving In With Malaika Episode 16 Review Contains No Spoilers-
In the latest episode, Dino Morea makes a surprise appearance and convinces both Malaika and Amrita to go on a kayaking expedition. And as expected, the drama begins over nothing. You would not expect a grown woman to get angry over her loved ones trying to convince her to join them in a fun activity, but it happens anyway. Amrita walking away enraged by that particular conversation will leave you wondering if it is real or a parody.
Finally, the three of them go kayaking, the only watchable segment. They try to have fun on the three small boats. Malaika and Amrita managed to stop themselves from nagging and complaining during that entire sequence which took me by surprise. They even said a few words appreciating each other’s presence which was a sweet moment.
The siblings, however, decide to go on a dinner to experience Goa’s nightlife. In a small montage, Malaika’s journey through the show was displayed. The most memorable episode for her was the stand-up show, and she was glad to have enough courage to complete the task. The rift between the sisters continues after an honest revelation by Malaika.
Amrita Arora is not the only buzzkill of the episode; the annoying product placements every five minutes is a close second. Even for a scripted show, the episode is badly written. No substance, no revelation, only a huge pile of irrelevant and forced dramatic incidents. Having Dino also could not save the episode in the slightest.
Moving In With Malaika Episode 16: Final Thoughts
There were not a lot of expectations going into the episode, yet the creators still managed to disappoint. Till the last episode, I was unable to figure out the intention behind the reality series. Undoubtedly the episodes were scripted, and the audience did not get to witness the “real Malaika”. The show was uninteresting and boring.
The forced drama, the unfunny jokes and the problematic takes are the only three elements that were consistently present in the show. As I mentioned in the review of one of the previous episodes, if Malaika wanted to show off her acting skills, she should have starred in a movie instead of creating a reality series.
Moving In With Malaika Episode 16 is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
