This Spanish TV series starts off rough, with two very different people gracing our screens and leaving us frustrated with their chaotic lives. Raul has just been diagnosed with heart cancer and must have surgery within two weeks while a free-spirited Marta has just found out she is pregnant and feels unsure of what to do in these circumstances. These two characters, in spite of being complete opposites, are some of the most annoying people I have seen in a while on television and will make you want to pull your hair out by the end of the second episode.

Thankfully, all is not lost – the general vibe of the episode picks up quickly after the second one and we dive into learning more about these characters and, most importantly, see their character arcs. This is primarily a romance-comedy series and Raul and Marta share an incredible vibe together that makes you want to root for them the moment they start hanging out. Although the annoying bits persist from time to time, I did find myself smiling more often than not throughout the runtime of the series.

The crux of the story is more about Raul and Marta’s personal struggles and how they find themselves slowly throughout the runtime of the series. The showcases that beautifully and it’s a nice gradual process that doesn’t feel rushed. There are moments when you wish that the plot moves faster, but they become less persistent the more we move towards the end. The series has an open ending that might or might not annoy some viewers, but I think it goes well with whatever else has happened here although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hope for a happy ending!

The series also showcases the relationships that the protagonists have with others around them including their family and friends. Two persistent people in Raul’s life are Georgina and Edu, while Marta’s pregnant sister Ana is a constant presence in her life. I liked the latter relationship because it reminded me of Fleabag in a way. On the other hand, Raul’s relationship with Edu is simply heartwarming and leaves your heart feeling warm and gooey. Can’t say the same about Georgina, but she does bring some drama to the table.

Both Verónica Echegui and Joan Amargós are fantastic in the series and give vulnerable and impactful performances. Every moment they are on-screen is good and they bring out the complex feelings of their difficult situation well. I especially loved the chaotic chemistry between Echegui and Claudia Melo, whose love-hate relationship really made me laugh more often than not.

Final Thoughts

Love You to Death has cute and funny moments that leave you entertained for most of its runtime. It’s pure chaos, but the softer and calmer moments in the middle make the series memorable and help you forget some frustrating moments. All in all, this one is an enjoyable watch-through and-through.
