I Am Married…But! Review

The plot of the show follows the realities of married life through the eyes of I-ling who wishes to move out of her in-law’s house but is stuck because of her husband who is a mummy’s boy. Despite the thought of divorce always crawling in her head, she finds herself getting attracted to her husband during the most crucial moments which bring her back into a loop. However, things begin to change when she finds her soulmate through an app and now feels a pull, drawing her to him. Will I-ling ever be able to escape this loop or will she give into her desires?

I have to say, this show is clearly an entertainer that has its moments (and many of them) which make you want to keep watching what happens next. Be it I-ling’s decision pertaining to her marriage, choosing between her husband and her soulmate, or having a child, all these factors have you hooked as they draw you into an unexpected binge-watching session. Everything about this show draws you into the plot and there is nothing better than the moment when you unexpectedly find yourself at the end of the show.

Moving on, the characters are so well written that you not only find them relatable but also find yourself falling for them. I-ling is certainly a character many women would relate with; be it the first episode where she puts forth her views of marriage or later when she herself is trapped in a marriage which is being a pain. We all know those scenes of her anger erupting upon seeing the mess in the kitchen and quickly calming herself when she finds her husband’s surprise is something we can all relate to. The societal pressure on women is something that never fails to attract the audience and seeing this in I-ling was certainly going to get us hooked.

Then there are the men around her- her husband who is infuriating yet someone we all see ourselves falling her, the pharmacist who gives her a brief escape from her reality, or her friend/ex who wishes for another chance. We have a lot of troupes that can be played out here, and yet, instead of confusion, we find a woman on a journey to finding what she wishes and living the love she wants.

The characters are all wonderfully written and I have enjoyed watching them throughout the show; their changes, their growth and more. The show gave me many moments to laugh at and many others that moved my heart, giving me an experience that was worth the watch and the ending was just marvellous.
