Drops of God Episode 5 Recap
After looking at Honoka’s past, we are taken back to Alexandre Léger’s office, where the two competitors, Issei and Camille, are given the second test. This time it is a painting of peaches, quinces and jasmine, and the only clue Alexandre has given the two of them is, “link.” They have no idea what it means and have two weeks to uncover what wine the test maker had in mind. After this, we see Issei in his room, looking at the press conference his grandfather decided to hold.
In an impeccable surprise, the man supported Issei in his journey to win the inheritance. Even showing public support for his efforts amongst a large group of media platforms present. His fate is now set in stone. However, there are still bigger problems because Hirokazu, Issei’s father, is missing, and he seems to be the only one who cares. Even his mother, Honoka, is very chill about this and is okay with the fact that her husband just left and won’t be coming back any time soon.

Since Iseei cannot accept something this ridiculous, he decides to take matters into his own hands and goes to the police, who also give him the same answer. Disappointed in his family, the law enforcement system and himself, he takes a gander at trying something as a last-ditch effort. Calling the reporter who initially took his interview before the inheritance tests, he promises to give her an exclusive interview if she helps him find his father.

Meanwhile, we look closer at Camille’s efforts at finding the wine based on the painting. She has been trying boxes and boxes of wine and eventually has had enough to vomit outside. Taking this as a sign to take a break, she and Thomas walk within the city and visit local bars to chill. The two drank a lot and seemed very intoxicated when they left. After they get home, we see Camille trying her best to hold back from him, but she gives in and starts making out with him.

He is completely against it and even rejects her twice after she asks him why. His answers are quite disappointing, and she goes to bed angry. The next morning, she is taken to an office with Luca, who tells her that she can continue the Léger wine guide, given that her father won’t be able to do it anymore. She is taken aback by this offer and even tries to refuse, given that she is still learning, but a single test that Luca puts her through gives her the confidence that she may be able to do this.
Feeling great about herself, she goes to Luca’s restaurant, where Lorenzo and Miyabi have been pulling out wine bottles. Thomas is also there, and he asks to speak to her alone. The two go out and get into a huge argument about her abilities as an oenologist, given that she is so talented. But he thinks that she shouldn’t take over the guides. She is also mad about the kiss, given that he has no idea what he wants. Thomas storms out and leaves, which leaves Camille alone. Lorenzo reminds her that this is a mistake and she should go apologise.

Amidst all this drama happening on Camille’s side, Issei is more interested in his father, especially after this disappearance, to see what he was like before he got married, and what his parents were like back when they were in college. This takes Issei back to their university, where they ask the administrator about their classes under Alexandre Léger. He finds out that the classes lasted a short while, and the professor was removed after an incident in the college.
However, the trail doesn’t go cold there because the administrator was nice enough to hand Issei the address of the interpreter who was monitoring the class. Making his way to the place, he finds her standing serenely, inviting him in with a grace that is relaxing. She tells him that if he comes in, he will have to deal with the truth. Delving into the story, she tells Issei that his father loved his mother a lot, enough to know that he often took classes only for her.
This leaves Issei shaken, and he asks more questions. He finds out that his father is Alexandre Léger, and that is the reason he is in this contest in the first place. Alexandre probably knew about this and didn’t say anything to preserve some kind of dignity for Honoka in front of the family. He goes back to the car, dialling Camille’s number before letting it go and staring off into the distance.

Drops of God Episode 5 Review

This episode just proves how well-constructed the narrative sequence is in the episodes. If the first few episodes focused on wine as the technicality, now it has become a woven thread into the large tapestry of the character dynamics, writing, family issues and more. The acting is also great, and there are moments when the characters are so detached that the performance just deepens the chasm.
Moreover, it is finally exciting to see more of Issei Tomine and his life, given that the first few episodes were very Camille-centric. The division of screen time is respectful to both the characters, and now that some of the truth is out, we are starting to uncover why this test exists the way it does, which is extremely exciting to see.
