Help has arrived from a rather peculiar source, but not an unexpected one. Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 5 follows the Quincy invasion into Soul Society a lot deeper than previously. Let’s see how it went in this review!
Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 5 Overview
What is there to be said about Bleach that hasn’t been said before? It is one of the most popular anime in the west of Japan of all time and is considered a part of the Big Three, a trio of anime widely recognised as having been a part of popularising the medium of anime. The show is back after a hiatus of nine years, as its first run ended in 2013. The newest season of the show is being developed by Studio Pierrot, the studio behind the original series, as well as other giants such as Naruto and Tokyo Ghoul.
The final arc of Bleach is directed by Tomohisa Taguchi, who has been involved in the productions of Persona 4 The Animation and Twin Star Exorcists, and the series is based on a manga written by Tite Kubo. This episode is also referred to in original Japanese as Bleach Sennen Kessen-hen Episode 5 (Bleach Sennen Kessen hen Episode 5) and Bleach TYBW Episode 5. Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 5 Review- Your Bankai Wasn’t This Weak
I’ve been asking around and loitering in forums since this episode aired, and most people seem to have come to the same conclusion I claim in the title of this review- the show really hasn’t been better than right now. After decades of setup, every single moment that happens in this show is characteristic and reminiscent of several others that have happened in the past, making for a highly satisfactory watch. I keep mentioning this, but an appreciation for the previous seasons is almost necessary to handle the quality of this season of the show.

Say, for example, the most major development to take place in the previous episode- Senbonzakura Kageyoshi, Byakuya’s Bankai and possibly the second most popular sword form to come out of the show since it started got stolen by As Nodt. The context of it being that strong was absolutely necessary for giving that scene the weight that it had, and there was a lot of it. The same went for Soi Fon, Sajin, and Toshiro’s Bankais, but theirs weren’t as iconic as Byakuya’s.
Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 5 was also filled with fantastic moments, such as Kenpachi Zaraki’s interactions with the various Quincies he encountered, Byakuya’s continued resistance against As Nodt, and the main event, which was Shigekuni Genryusai Yamamoto entering the battlefield to put an end to this nonsense in one of the most epic scenes ever put to screen. This really was an episode filled with moments that will be remembered by fans for a while, even after the show ends, and had been earned by years of buildup and our anticipation.

The pacing of the show doesn’t seem to be slowing down at all, as every episode moves the plot forward at a pace that would be unheard of in 2012. Gone are the days with filler arcs right in between important fights, as there is a lot of ground to cover and what seems to be not enough time to cover them. The show is still doing an admirable job of adapting all the content from the manga in a way that translates very well to the medium of anime while not leaving anything out from the original source material.
We also know the name of the Quincy King now, which I won’t spoil for you in this review. The sole flashback featured in this episode was phenomenal in showcasing exactly what had been lost due to this war and giving the Soul Reapers motivation to fight back harder than ever before. Ichigo’s bind hasn’t been dealt with yet, but there was a promising development that happened at the end of the episode that would fix that very soon. Each episode is better than the last here, and one can’t wait to see what happens next in the series, for it promises to be great.
Verdict
Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Episode 5 was the most exciting thing you’ll see this year in anime, only to be topped by the next thing that happens in this here anime. These are truly blessed times.
