The Mysterious Benedict Society Season 2 Episode 1-3 finds the incredibly gifted orphans on a treasure hunt of sorts, to retrieve Mr Benedict and Number Two from the grips of his evil twin brother Dr Curtain (both played by Tony Hale). For the unversed, the fantasy /mystery series is about a bunch of uniquely talented kids that are recruited to stop the global emergency, and hamper all the plans of the evil twin. The series is based on the children’s books of the same name by Trenton Lee Stewart.
The cast of the show includes Tony Hale as Mr Nicholas Benedict and Dr LD Curtain, Kristen Schaal as Number Two, MaameYaa Boafo as Rhonda, Ryan Hurst as Milligan, Mystic Inscho as Reynie Muldoon, Seth Carr as Sticky, Emmy DeOliveira as Kate Wetherall, and Marta Kessler as Constance Contraire. Moreover, the series is created by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi.
-The Mysterious Benedict Society Season 2 Episode 1 Review Does Not Contain Spoilers-
The new season starts off with tricky news for the recruits of the mysterious society. As the mentors, Mr Benedict and Number Two plan a kind of treasure hunt for the kids, after successfully dismantling the global emergency. Even though the evil twin Dr Curtain (played by Tony Hale) took the entire credit for the feat, the mentors were happy enough for the rescue.
The trouble starts when Curtain replaces the vibrations of global emergency with extreme happiness triggers. This starts to create a ruckus within the world and calls for another rescue mission. However, this time, Mr Benedict and his trust associate Number Two get kidnapped by the evil twin, before they can develop a strategy.
The evil twin assumes that without their mentors in place, the kids won’t be much of a nuisance. This results in another adventurous mission for the orphans, to find Mr Benedict (through his meticulously placed treasure hunt) and diffuse the situation with their sheer genius and innate gifts.

The successive episode deals with the adventure part, where the children face a challenging proposition from a group of polo players, and officer Cannonball. Meanwhile, Milligan, Ms Perumal and Rhonda try their best to keep up with the prodigies of the mysterious society.

The element of innocence is completely intact in season 2 and further gets layered with the driving theme of adventure. Moreover, the kids are solving real-life puzzles and problems, as compared to their training in season 1.
Reynie is still my favourite character of the lot and is leading the gang with his kind and moralistic instincts. Furthermore, the series is filled with those quirky and funny Wes Anderson-ish bits all along, which becomes the USP of the whole thing. All in all, the episode leaves us with more mysteries to solve, while the talented bunch find different ways to escape Dr Curtain’s Henchmen.
