Are You There God Its Me Margaret Trailer: Struggles of an Adolescent Girl and Her Quest to Self Discovery

Are You There God Its Me Margaret is a brand new coming-of-age drama directed by Kelly Fremon Craig. It is an adaptation of the novel of the same name written by Judy Blume, who is credited as the writer, along with Kelly Fremon Craig. The plot of the movie centres around a middle school girl who grows up questioning God and his existence because of her parents’ interfaith marriage.

Abby Ryder Fortson takes up the role of the lead character, Margaret and Rachel McAdams plays the character of Barbara Simon, Margaret’s mother. The rest of the supporting and recurring cast includes Kathy Bates, Benny Safdie, Elle Graham, Mia Dillon, Jecobi Swain, Wilbur Fitzgerald, Gary Houston, Ethan McDowell, Kate MacCluggage, Aidan Wojtak-Hissong, Amelia Salazar, Zackary Brooks, Gracen Newton, Benjamin Mackey, Natalie Maguire, Eden Lee and more.

The two-minute-long trailer gives us an overview of the plot. The clip opens with the line “Are you there God? It’s me Margaret.” and introduces us to the lead character. The young girl is undergoing multiple changes in her body due to adolescence, and she struggles to accept them. Her only wish is to be a regular teenager like everyone else.

Early adolescent worries such as bras, menstruation and boys trouble her immensely, but along with her friends, she tries to get through it. Her parents’ interfaith marriage also plays a huge role in her identity crisis. The trailer shows how her parents struggle to keep up with her and her school activities. Nevertheless, they manage to stick together through thick and thin.

A few minutes into the trailer, it can be noticed that Margaret’s grandma also plays a huge role in her life. It will show not only the struggles of a teen but also the turbulent life of a mother and a woman during her old age. A display of the various aspects of a woman’s life through the generations is the main element of the story.

The infamous novel by Judy Blume has been connecting generations and has helped multiple women to overcome a difficult period of their life. Everyone goes through a crucial change, and it is helpful when there is someone they can relate to. The author made the novel an essential piece of guide for every young woman, and Kelly Fremon Craig also wishes to do the same with the movie.
