From writing relatable lyrics to producing head-bopping beats- SUGA has made his name in the industry. So, let’s celebrate his birthday by listening to 5 heartwarming songs composed by BTS’ talented rapper/producer, SUGA!
Happy Birthday SUGA

Amygdala
While his 2023 album D-DAY had a title track named Haegeum, Amygdala gathered the attention of fans for its raw and heartbreaking lyrics. He is famously known for always being open about his past struggles with depression, OCD, anxiety, etc., but this song gave us an inside view into his back story. Coupled with a harmonious guitar instrumental and the pain in his voice, we were sucked into the world of a young Min Yoongi.
From talking about his mother’s illness to his infamous motorcycle accident, the lyrics show how Yoongi used all those painful moments to mould himself into the artist he is today. But he also admits that he lost Min Yoongi as he got fame from being SUGA and Agust D. This song shows how he beautifully carves his story through his skills as a composer.
Let Me Know
Belonging to BTS’ 2014 album Dark & Wild, Let Me Know is an R&B and Hip-Hop song that talks about a man coming to terms with the end of a relationship. The lyrics indicate how he still struggles with letting go of the memories he shared. This is one of the songs that display BTS’ initial style of music- a rough, emotional and beautiful blend of raw vocals.

Stay Alive
A soundtrack for BTS’ webtoon 7FATES: CHAKHO, Stay Alive broke multiple records as soon as it dropped, which was a testament to the powerful collaboration between Jung Kook and SUGA. With the powerful beats and beautiful lyrics of the birthday boy and honey-like vocals of Jung Kook, fans still rave about the song! The lyrics indicate the plight of the characters in the webtoon. Jung Kook calls out for help and asks why he is stuck in the situation.
While the lyrics are about the characters, it also proves relatable to the listeners who feel as though they are stuck in their situations as well and all they can do now is to ‘stay alive’ to get through it.
Eight by IU
A more upbeat song with darker lyrics, Eight by IU (featuring and produced by SUGA) was a collaboration that many looked forward to. The song deals with a painful part of life- loss and letting go. By concealing the heartfelt lyrics with a lighter instrumental, the listeners feel like they are being given a warm hug.
Wine by Suran feat. Changmo
A classic, Wine by Suran is a groovy hip-hop and R&B track that talks about reminiscing past love over a glass of wine. With Suran’s gorgeous vocals and Changmo’s addicting rap verse, Wine became an ear-worm for many fans, including ARMYs. While he creates many songs that are more raw with emotions, he produces songs of many genres, which is a sign of his skills as a composer/producer. This song also earned him the Best Producer award in 2017
