Netflix is releasing a new show on their platform, and so we decided to cover everything we knew about The Exchange. It is a Kuwaiti drama series directed by Jasem Al-Muhanna and Karim Elshenawy. The foreign language shows and films on the streaming platform have truly made it a global nexus for good content. This series is just one of many examples of how we can gauge different cultures and understand the similarities within filmmaking across the globe. For now, two episodes have been entered on IMDb, each expected to last around 30-60 minutes.
The Exchange Cast
This show stars Rawan Mehdi, Mona Hussein, Jasem Al-Nabhan, Hussain Al-Mahdi, Abdullah Bahman, Asmahan Tawfiq, Mohamed Mansour, Faisal AlAmeri and Maryam Salih, alongside other cast members.
The Exchange Plot/Synopsis
Sisterhood and feminism are general themes present in the show’s trailer. Netflix describes this show as, “Inspired by real events, two women set out to pioneer the cutthroat stock market of 1980s Kuwait — and disrupt its corrupt boys club along the way.” The trailer sets up the story pretty well. Following two women who are part of a community that underestimates women, this show explores how they make their mark in the club without compromising who they are.
The protagonists, Farida and Munira, are both grappling with their sense of self as they find themselves at a crossroads. One of them is scared after having not worked for 13 years, meanwhile, the other is still navigating how to delegate to a group of people who don’t want to listen to the boss, and she just happens to be a woman. The former pleads to join the Kuwait Stock Exchange, where the latter works. However, when she gets there, she finds out that she will just be making tea for the people there instead of actually doing any corporate trading.

Additionally, all the male employees in the company are scared that the women are taking over their jobs when in reality, it is just the two women surrounded by men. Amidst this, they have to deal with unwarranted advances from creepy men, listening to them say something incredibly ignorant about the female psyche and just general gender-based discrimination in the works.
Consequently, the women decide that they should stick together and help each other out through the troubles in this company. However, making their mark as women in the workplace is not enough, they need to deal with the ethical standards of the stock exchange and understand under-the-table deals that make this profession risky and fraudulent. There are people on Farida and Munira’s side. To cheer them when they stand their guard against a trade that doesn’t work.
Now that the two of them have decided to band forces together, they have become unstoppable in the workplace. When people don’t see them make trades, they compel themselves to become visible. Ambition and sisterhood have come together in this show to tell a story during the late 80s that shows how the world needed to change for the better. The show will also explore how women coming together is a stronger force than any kind of misogyny or discrimination.
It is a wonderful premise that will hopefully translate to a good storyline and plot on screen.
