Spy x Family Episode 21 Review: Is She In Love With Me?

The 12th episode of Spy x Family was everything I wanted it to be, but how did this episode fare anyways? Now, without further ado, let us jump right into the review and see how this episode went.

Spy x Family Episode 21 Overview

Even though shounen giants like Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War, My Hero Academia Season 6 and Chainsaw Man are all airing this season, Spy x Family stays strong amongst the top dogs with an unconventional storyline and interesting characters. The series is based on the hit manga by Endou Tatsuya, which combines action with family-centric comedy.

After the successful first season, it was only natural that we would get a second season for the Forger family. The anime is back with stunning animation, clearly influenced by the triumph of season 1 and a fast-paced storyline that will never cease to amaze the audience.

Furuhashi Kazuhiro directs the anime, and on the other hand, Wit Studio, CloverWorks is in charge of its animation. “SOUVENIR” by BUMP OF CHICKEN is the opening theme, whereas “Shikisai (色彩)” by yama is the ending theme.

Spy x Family Episode 21 Review and Recap: Honeytrapping Yor

In the last episode, we watched Yor having a glum expression, and in this episode, we got the reason behind it. The fact that a woman from her husband’s office came to her and directly challenged her definitely made Yor think about Loid having an affair.

She starts to blame herself and wonders whether he wants to move on to somebody better like Fiona rather than be with her. Episode 12 opens with Yor mumbling about how Loid must be planning to dump her, and her neighbours witness this. They gossip about how even though Loid is a handsome man, he must be a nasty person to cheat and how his wife can report him as a spy for his actions.

Loid hears this from behind a pole and is visibly worried about his fate. He knows he needs to clear this misunderstanding as soon as possible to protect his cover. After that, he leaves Franky as a babysitter for Anya and invites Yor to a bar so that they can talk about Fiona.

Yor, on the other hand, is not taking this entire thing as lightly as Loid, as she’s genuinely worried that he doesn’t need her anymore. When Loid tries to talk about Fiona, Yor even gets herself drunk so that she can tell him it’s okay for him to move on.

Seeing her fidget and so anxious about his and Fiona’s relationship, he quickly deduces to honeytrap Yor to exploit her feelings for his own mission. He moves in for the kill and tries to suggest they turn their relationship into a real one.

But this whole ordeal was just too much for Yor, and she kicks him away from embarrassment. Hilariously, Loid thinks that he must have crossed the line by suggesting such a thing. He even faints from Yor’s kick and wakes up later in her lap.

This part was hilarious, but at the same time, we got a bit more insight into the heart of our fake couple. They are not in love yet, but they clearly feel something special for each other, which they are unaware of.

The second part was also really nice, as we saw Anya going on a shopping date with Becky and enjoying her time.

Verdict

This episode again delivered an entertaining and lovely watch that makes you smile without effort. As a LoidxYor shipper, I do hope that they confront their feelings more, but at the same time, I’m glad they’re taking their time to understand each other. Watch Spy X Family on Netflix.
