Reacher Season 3 Review
Returning after two very successful seasons, Jack Reacher is back with more scowl, more brawn and more bloodshed as he tries to dismantle a huge drug empire while trying to rescue a kidnapped DEA agent. The season, with 8 long episodes, is entertaining and complicated enough to keep most viewers hooked, as we watch Reacher making increasingly dangerous decisions to keep himself hidden within the web of lies and deceit as the bodies pile up slowly. The season also features a ghost from the past who comes to haunt our protagonist, as if he needed more complications in an already dangerous time.
The season showcases some of the softer sides of Reacher, a character who is always less talk and more action. This season showcases him appreciating and recognising things that truly matter in his line of work, along with his time in the military. The season is simply fantastic at balancing the emotional and the action elements, bringing forth energy and excitement but giving us a break when it is required.

Ritchson comes back as the protagonist, who is every bit of the brawny “superhero” in this season whom we have come to love. The season showcases him going through different levels of emotions as he faces new and old enemies, and tries to right the wrongs from his past. Ritchson is sometimes a bit stiff, but I think it goes well with his character who is a no-nonsense guy who’s constantly on the run from his feelings and anything concrete. We learn a bit about why that may be in this season as well as why this mission might hit a home a bit more than normal.
It’s extremely easy to go through the episodes, particularly because it’s fast-paced and the narrative flows from one twist to another seamlessly. Things get more and more complicated as Jack gets deeper into the mess and is delicious to watch unfold. He also finds his match in a secondary antagonist in Paulie, which comes as both a funny addition and a scary one. It’s unnerving to find Alan afraid or unsure about someone, and considering he is twice Alan’s size is unnerving for us as well! That being said, I think Alan Ritchson is perfect as Reacher and makes you revere him and fear him in the same capacities. You believe in his vision in every step and he’s fantastic in every scene.

Apart from him, we have Sonya Cassidy as Susan Duffy in this season and she’s equally fantastic. It’s nice to have a female protagonist who is not dependent on the men in their life and has a goal that they work towards, instead of forwarding the man’s goals and dreams. Susan and Jack have a little rendezvous as well, but the end is an interesting fallout that makes you believe in their character trajectories. Other than her, we have Brian Tee as Francis Xavier Quin, whose limited presence in the season is quite great. Johnny Berchtold as Richard Beck is fantastic and forms the heart of the season. Olivier Richters as Paulie is a fantastic antagonist against Jack and their fight sequence is quite entertaining.
Final Thoughts

There have been many follow-up seasons of fan-favourite action-thriller shows this year including The Recruit and The Night Agent but I must say that Reacher Season 3 might be my favourite entry. It’s very easy to binge watch and its smooth action sequences and twists & turns are perfect for anyone who has been patiently waiting for the return of the hunky mountain of an ex-Marine hobo. This one’s a great addition to the franchise.
