Newtopia Episode 2 Recap

The plane from the last episode doesn’t end up crashing into Jae-yoon’s building, but it does end up crashing near them. Meanwhile, Young-joo finds the guy’s eye stuck to her neck and both of them are traumatised by what just happened. She makes use of Sung Tae-sik to pull the guy out of the car. Meanwhile, Im-ho and Jae-yoon get trapped in the hotel elevator with Aaron Park. When the elevator opens, they find dead bodies on the floor and people running around. When they come out, pandemonium has already set in.

The boys try to fend off the zombies who are already running all over the place and Jae-yoon surprisingly steps up and handles the situation well. Down on the street, Tae-sik has come under fire for putting a hole in the guy’s body. However, that’s not the biggest problem that they are about to face, as a truck driven by zombies is about to crash into them, setting everything in motion. At the base, the soldiers are shocked to learn that Martial law has been imposed.

Jae-yoon and Young-joo are both running through their respective locations trying to reach safety, facing different deadly situations along the way. Young-joo calls her mother and confirms that she is safe and she pushes her to go to the base and be with Jae-yoon around all the guns. Meanwhile, Jae-yoon finds Soo-jung when he goes back to base and takes her with them. On the way, they come across Chef Jung, who is holding on to a horde of zombies alone but the glass separating them starts to break, while Young-joo goes off with Sam-soo, while the zombies follow close behind.

With the blood and guts out in full force, I am invested — the silly comedy is more acceptable and the practical effects are so fantastic that it will make you feel disgusted. I still think the series really overdoes some of its gags a bit much, but I guess it’s funny when seen with the guts. I think the series will be a great binge-watch, but the episodic release schedule might not work great for it. Either way, episode 2 is much more enjoyable!
