1 A My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 8

This was an exhilarating episode, so much so that I almost had to catch my breath after finishing it and coming to this review. The season has been non-stop action and destruction so far and doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. It is such a thrill to watch it all come together for a show that was long assumed to be dead in the water by many. In an ironic turn of events, this season has been ranked higher on its score than its popularity on MAL, which says a lot about how highly rated this season is, as well as the declining popularity of the franchise.

However, I do not doubt that if the show keeps this up, it will find itself on similar levels to its peak, as the level of its current quality matches and even surpasses how good it used to be in the past. My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 8 saw the fight on both ends of the attack come to a head as Gigantomachia awoke to Shigaraki’s call and ran to join him with the League of Villains on his back. We wouldn’t have had a show to talk about if that had come to pass.

However, there were entities that weren’t going to make it easy for Machia. A group that had been learning about each other’s abilities ever since they faced off towards the start of the previous season. The entirety of Class 1 was standing in Machia’s way, and they were going to put up a spirited defence against the raging monster. There were a ton of fantastic callbacks to moments previously established in Seasons 4 and 5, such as the entirety of Class B’s abilities, Momo’s self-doubt, Kirishima and Ashido’s past, and so much more.

It felt like a real fight, with logical decisions and heavy stakes, something this season has been very good with so far. Gigantomachia was also shown as a terrifying monster unkillable by any living person in his current form. Facing him down, as those kids did, says a lot about their development and how far they’ve come. There was another battle going on the other side of My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 8, where experience and development weren’t as useful, and barely staying alive was a hard-enough proposition. Tomura Shigaraki is a monster.

This is a wall that feels too high to overcome, even more so than Gigantomachia. With Machia, you at least know that being an underling, he can be taken down in the show’s narrative. Shigaraki is a totally different beast, however. He feels undefeatable and indestructible, even more so that All Might felt at his peak. There is a feeling of intense helplessness around him at the moment, and nothing looks like they can stop him at the moment. Even worse, the heroes might have just lost their best weapon against him. This is horrifying and demoralising, but above that, this is fantastic and unmissable television.

Verdict

My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 8 was an exhilarating ride that gave hope and then yanked it away. It was very well written and utilised all of its players and pawns well.
