Somebody Ending Explained

The final episode of the Korean thriller shows us a chase, a turn of events, and a surprising side of Kim Sum that leaves us speechless and terrorised. The episode brought a good end to the thriller and here is what happened.

Yeon-o begins to get video calls on the Somebody app from the women he killed which leaves him terrified until he realises that some of the phones he had hidden have been stolen. He knows where to go and makes his way to Mon-wok and threatens her to stay out of his business with Kim Sum after which he smashes the statues of the General to whom Mon-wok prays.

Mon-wok then takes the phone she received to Ki-eun and the two take them to Kim Sum and let her know that they are going to legally take action against Yeon-o. Later that night, Ki-eun is given a warning from Yeon-o as he throws a candy in her house which is the one he gave her in Euljiro.

The next day, Yeon-o tells Kim Sum about a hideout that he has prepared for the two with excitement while unaware that the latter is tracking his location and has something else planned for him. On the other hand, the police go through Yeon-o’s office and find the cell phones of his other victims while Samantha continues to scare him with the video calls that they have prepared.

Later that night, Yeon-o comes to meet Kim Sum and the two almost get intimate but he stops after which he stays there for a little while, then leaves for the hideout where he will wait for her.

The next day, Kim Sum informs Ki-eun that she is going to Yeon-o and doesn’t reveal much before proceeding, however, Ki-eun is now scared for her friend and decides to track her phone to follow her instead. Kim Sum meets Mon-wok and asks her to return the blade that was given to her by Yeon-o.

Mon-sok is reluctant but gives it after wrapping it in a talisman. Kim Sum thanks her and leaves but not before giving her Yeon-o’s birth charts and asking her to read his fortune. Mon-wok checks it out and finds something that leaves her shocked as she runs behind her but in vain.

Elsewhere, Yeon-o is waiting for Kim Sum at their new hideout while sitting in a space he named Isle’s Space. He receives a video call request from Kim Sum on Somebody and he asks her where she is. He then confesses his love for her and tells her that he will wait for her no matter how long it takes.

Suddenly, a hand with a blade appears and slices through his face, across his eyes, and horizontally after which they give him another cut across his neck. Yeon-o then screams and withers in pain while his blood flows through those cuts. He then grabs his phone which plays the last two sentences of Kim Sum repeatedly because this video call was nothing but a trap.

He screams that he loves her and will wait for her until he is unable to let out another word, and soon he loses his life while Kim Sum runs out and sits outside while waiting for someone.

Mon-wok soon arrives to get her and doesn’t question what happened, she then drops her at Spectrum. There, a taxi driver brings her bag which he has been driving the whole day as Ki-eun followed her.

She then joins her colleagues who are playing a game on the big screen at the office and joins them nonchalantly, like everything that happened didn’t exist.

The next day, she once again follows her routine and goes on with her life.

Will there be a Somebody Season 2?

The story of Somebody may seem like it has come to an end, however, there are questions left unanswered and we wouldn’t mind getting some more of the psycho killers of this show. After all, this is just one story of the many crimes that would happen on a dating app and Kim Sum’s behaviour at the end has me asking for more.

The drama could have brought more in terms of the story of the two leads as well as Ki-eun whose accident itself is a mystery. On the other hand, I’m curious to know if Kim Sum is really as nonchalant as she appears to be at the end.

And Yeon-o’s childhood was never revealed which also irks me because I want to know. If this were a film then we could have ignored these questions, however, to think that the 8 episodes of the Kdrama had no time to reveal these things is kind of a disappointment and we are not happy.

Now coming to a Somebody season 2, well that is something that could be possible because, at the end of the day, this is a dating app crime thriller and a lot more can happen. However, there is no news of another season as of yet so we cannot say much about that, but let’s keep waiting until the creators of the show give us some exciting news.

  1. I think we did get a glimpse into his childhood through the boy he was helping out online. Personally, I’m not sure that Kim Sun didn’t feel as though she was doing him a favor to kill him and/or she got the thrill of killing under her skin. I thought it was a terrific Kdrama…much more interesting than the conglomerate troupes. I like to say it’s Extraordinary Attorney Woo meets Hannibal Lecter….though Kim Sum is a psychopath in her own right….absolutely amazing acting.
