Heweliusz Review
The blue-green tone of this Polish drama will leave most fans a bit disturbed as something terrible happens aboard a ferry that leaves everyone devastated and confused. The series boasts an impressive cast with a huge number of supporting extras and brings a vastness to our screens that will leave most viewers feeling like they are drowning.
Heweliusz is told using non-linear storytelling, focusing on the events before, during and after the disaster and highlighting the reactions of the victims’ families to really bring home the devastation of the situation. The hopelessness that everyone feels both on and off board is beyond explanation, and thus, the only way that you will feel anything remotely similar to those in the situation is through these haunting visuals.

The series jumps back and forth a lot and paints a vivid, character-driven driven and emotionally resonant picture of a tragedy that could’ve been stopped. It requires your full attention and can get a bit taxing at some points because it tends to get a little slow. Thus, the series is for anyone who likes historical tales with a ton of backstory to follow.
Despite this, the series is gripping and will leave you emotionally spent as we see the fallout of a horrible situation. You can’t help but be angry at how irresponsible everyone in the series is for allowing this situation to happen in the first place, and then be absolutely heartbroken for everyone going through this tragedy without any fault of their own. Another part of the series that many people might not enjoy is the cliffhanger at the end of the runtime that will leave most frustrated at an already frustrating situation.

Regardless, the series encourages us to think about a tragedy that could’ve been avoided and works as a remembrance of sorts of all the people who lost their lives. The entire situation is reexamined through a contemporary lens and makes us reflect on how we remember, how institutions respond, and how human agency matters in the face of catastrophe. Overall, this one’s a grim tale that can get a bit slow sometimes, but it’s an important story that needs to be told.
Final Thoughts

Heweliusz is a thrilling and emotionally draining watch that can get a bit slow at times. However, it’s an important story that needs to be told, that will leave you on edge throughout the runtime.
