FRIDA is an animated feature film that takes you on an intimate journey through the life, mind, and heart of the iconic artist Frida Kahlo and is based on her illustrated diary, letters, essays, and print interviews. It is directed by Carla Gutiérrez, who is known for her work on the documentary RBG and La Corona.
Covering more than 40 years of the celebrated artist’s life, the filmmakers used their unrestricted access to research never-before-seen materials to bring forth a beautiful tapestry of stories. The depths in Kahlo’s art brought together multiple generations of admirers worldwide and they solidified her status as a modern yet timeless artist.

In her feature film directorial debut, editor Carla Gutiérrez, and her team comprising mostly women, worked for two years to create a cinematic experience that goes beyond an ordinary art history lesson.
