Having lost everything over the course of the last movie and after that, mafia king Ferry Bouman comes out of his peaceful retirement away from Brabant to save his sister’s daughter’s daughter, Jezebel, from ending up dead thanks to an ecstasy deal gone wrong. But will this step out of retirement prove to be fruitful for him?

The film has a runtime of 94 minutes.

Ferry 2 Review

After losing literally everything after the events of the last episode, Ferry, for some reason, decides to jump headfirst into the quicksand of gangster life. The moment Jezebel comes back into his life, he gives up any semblance of normalcy that he had drummed up and starts his old ways. In a way, this probably goes well with Ferry’s character – unpredictable and irresponsible, with a streak for insanity.

We follow the same path but with a bunch of kids who don’t know what they are doing, turning Ferry into the mature one this time around. It’s bizzare and wacky but it moves are breakneck speeds and has an innocence to it that feels fresh. Yes, I see the irony in that sentence considering they are making ecstasy but, you know. It is what it is. Viewers can’t help but root for these gang of misfits to get out of the crap that they are in, even though the end results are drugs.

The tender moments between Jezebel and Ferry are sweet and relatable. The moments when they aren’t making drugs or trying to murder each other are lighthearted and sweet, leaving you to wonder what could’ve been in the lives of these people under different circumsntances. Lammers and Beemsterboer have good chemistry and look rather sweet as the mentor and mentee.

Apart from that, the film features some twists and a few backstabs, including coming to terms with some things from the past. There are some emotional moments that viewers who have followed the series would enjoy. But it mostly showcases the utterly lack of good deciison making from any of the characters in the seires and the sheer recklessness that some people live their lives with. The rivalry between Ferry and Dennis is also an interesting point in the film, while Lex, as the antagonist, is quite good as well. He’s threatening but not in a cartoonish way, which added to the thrill of the film.

Ferry 2 is good for what it is, an entertaining thriller film for those who enjoy a light, quick watch. Frank Lammers is great as the titular character and embodies him extremely well. Jezebel’s character is just annoying and unstable for most of the runtime, but without her I guess we won’t get the unnecessary complications that keep us on the edge. I think the film has very little suspense and although the action sequences are entertaining, there’s very little that you won’t be able to figure out from the beginning.

Final Thoughts

Ferry 2 ends on an oddly bittersweet note but it does make me question where it belongs in the universe. The film is entertaining, although a bit predictable and convinient. There are a few sweet moments as well that will melt your heart. All in all, the film good for what it is supposed to be and that’s all that matters at this point!
