Dandadan Episode 8 Recap

Dandadan Episode 9 Review

This time, we see Aira developing warm feelings toward Okarun and Seiko, largely because of Okarun’s repeated acts of selfless bravery in protecting her. However, her attitude toward Momo is a stark contrast. Aira still clings to a significant misunderstanding, believing Momo to be an evil entity controlling the kind-hearted demon—also known as Okarun.

Aira remains stuck in the fantasy that she’s the chosen one destined to free Okarun from Momo’s so-called tyranny, and she’s determined to achieve this at any cost. To add to the hilarity, Aira quickly falls head over heels for Okarun and comes up with an unconventional plan to confess her feelings: kissing him until he agrees to be hers. Convinced this is how love confessions work, she eagerly tries to execute her plan, much to Okarun’s dismay.

Meanwhile, while Momo herself may not fully understand her feelings for Okarun, it’s clear that she’s unsettled by Aira’s sudden infatuation with him. Adding to the tension, Okarun begins avoiding Momo, and spending less time with her, which only amplifies the misunderstandings.

However, the story takes a sharp turn toward the end with the arrival of more aliens, including the controversial Serpoians. Their new mission involves targeting Okarun’s “banana”.

As Acrobatic Silky, Aira transforms into a more tamed version of the ghost, with plenty of power to hold herself against the Mantis Shrimp alien. However, when things become too much for her, Okarun comes to the rescue, but only this time, he is naked. Even though he lets go of his shame and continues to fight on, the Serpo Aliens and the Mantis together prove to be a formidable bunch.

Thankfully, that is when Momo comes to the rescue and showcases her very broken abilities. There is also the creature called Nessie that previously attacked Momo, and this time, it is certain to destroy anything and everything in its path. This episode again confirmed just how crazy the story and the characters of the series can be. Even the situations where the characters find themselves are absolutely unhinged and ultimately make you laugh with their absurdness.

First of all, Okarun has been naked for the entirety of this episode, and we see him trying his level best to retain some sort of modesty. On top of that, the scene of Serpo Aliens forcefully evolving the Praying Mantis was something that is unexplainable. The song that the Praying Mantis belts out about a Japanese businessman had me laughing maniacally, wondering who on earth wrote this masterpiece.

Plus, the most astonishing part of it all is the fact that the makers still managed to incorporate some really organic and heart-thumping romantic moments between our protagonists. One time you are laughing your ass off while, on the other hand, you can’t help but ship Momo with Okarun.

Even when we could see a love triangle forming in the previous episode, it is very apparent that the two main protagonists are attracted to each other, and it doesn’t matter who comes in between them.

Verdict

Today’s episode was another great mixture of peak comedy, great visuals, abnormal situations and hopeful encounters. The action was also top-notch, and the way the power system gets used here is very cool. I would just suggest you watch this and see for yourself how awesome this anime is in its very unique way. It might make you question your life choices with its weird themes, but sometimes, you need the correct amount of absurdity in life.
