Crash Course in Romance Episode 3 Recap and Review: Envy and Introspection Takes the Center Stage

Crash Course in Romance Episode 3 (일타 스캔들) is perhaps the sweetest episode of the drama series, which finally reveals the real identity of the math instructor. The Kdrama is helmed by Yoo Je-Won and stars Jung Kyoung-Ho and Jeon Do-Yeon in the lead roles. Notably, the series also takes over tvN’s Saturday-Sunday 9:10 KST time slot previously occupied by Alchemy of Souls.

Crash Course in Romance Episode 3 has a runtime of 75 minutes.

-Crash Course in Romance Episode 3 Recap Contains Spoilers-

Crash Course in Romance Episode 3 starts with the aftermath of the broken window. And finds Choi Chi-Yeol and Nam Haeng-Seon inside a police station, filing a complaint about the unprecedented attack on the dish store. As expected, it doesn’t take long for the duo to fight with each other inside the station, instead of sticking to the main subject.

This time around, Choi Chi-Yeol takes the lead and diffuses the situation by foretelling the policeman about his celebrity status. Moreover, the entire ruckus comes to a halt when his dedicated assistant arrives on the scene and takes his usually grumpy boss back to his home.

Furthermore, the episode gets sweeter with each passing second after this momentarily aggressive moment. We get to see a heartwarming montage of Nam Haeng-Seon’s niece acing her test, followed by Choi Chi-Yeol becoming a regular (and still grumpy) customer at Nation’s Best Banchan. And his subtle yet straightforward interactions with the irritated owner.

The best part of the episode arrives soon after Nam Haeng-Seon accidentally drenches the star math tutor with cleaning water. And leaves him staring with absolutely no expression. Puzzled at first, the private instructor refuses to dry the clothes at the store and engages himself in another spat with the ever-positive owner. However, the situation turns into an array of unexpected surprises when Nam Hae-E enters the shop and identifies him as his star tutor.

This completely changes the power dynamic in the episode and leads to a complete transformation of Nam Haeng-Seon’s attitude towards the teacher. She starts to act in a sweeter manner, and even bows with respect for Choi Chi-Yeol. Notably, I have a hunch that this polar opposite change in her attitude will soon fade away.

The next part of the episode deals with Choi Chi-Yeol’s introspection about his life and mannerisms. Starting with a rare encounter with his college friends, and then with his own staff. Both of these groups, describe him as a workaholic who doesn’t leave any chance for bragging about his accomplishments.

This subtle yet partially true trait leaves him in a sad mood. And also forms the first of many moments, that might make him reconsider his life choices. Something which will definitely bring him closer to Nam Haeng-Seon and other individuals.

The rest of the episode leads to a new level performing exam organized by the institute (to show off their speciality), which puts extreme pressure on the teachers and Choi Chi-Yeol. Morever, Nam Haeng-Seon makes sure to enrol her niece on the programme and provide her with the opportunity at a good medical university.

As usual, we also get a glimpse of Lee Sun-Jae’s broken home, which forms the dark part of the episode. At this point, his character is going through the most troubled phase in the show and needs a comforting friendship.

Apart from this, each and everything remains super positive in the episode and marks the selection of the teenagers into the programme. During the last few seconds, we get to see a drunk Nam Haeng-Seon lifting a sober Choi Chi-Yeol, as part of her unique celebrations.

Crash Course in Romance Episode 3 Review

Crash Course in Romance Episode 3

Crash Course in Romance Episode 3 is by far the best instalment of the series. The entire episode exudes heartwarming vibes and keeps you smiling throughout. It has a positive spirit, just like Nam Haeng-Seon’s character, and makes the best use of it.

The episode keeps certain things under drapes. For instance, the stalker of Choi Chi-Yeo, the window smasher and the burning coaching politics. However, there is still a lot more to go, and we can expect some answers in the future.

The undercurrent of Choi Chi-Yeol’s self-realisation was one of the strongest moments in the show. Even though he wants to change himself, he still hasn’t got around the idea completely. On the other hand, Nam Haeng-Seon would be the last person to undergo any transformation, and really needs to return to her usual self with the instructor.

There is no reason why this episode won’t lift your spirits, and leave you with a broad smile towards the end. Things are cooking up at Nations Best Banchan, all you need is a little bit of patience.
