Bleach TYBW Part 3 Episode 9 Recap

Kyoraku quickly senses that something significant has occurred, but his focus shifts to the more immediate dangers ahead. Alongside his comrades, he grapples with uncertainty, unsure if their enemies are nearby or distant. This leaves them questioning whether to proceed cautiously or accelerate their pace, knowing a threat could strike from any direction. Kyoraku recognizes the need to confront Barro, whose deadly accurate attacks pose an escalating danger.
The battle between Kyoraku and Barro kicks off with both fighters proving to be evenly matched. Utilizing his unique Shikai ability to turn children’s games into reality, Kyoraku cleverly evades Barro’s lethal shots. However, the situation intensifies when Barro uncovers the mechanics of Kyoraku’s powers, leading to a high-stakes clash.

As the fight escalates, Nanao arrives to check on Kyoraku, but he reassures her that he can handle Barro alone. Shinji agrees, emphasizing the trust everyone must place in Kyoraku as the head captain. Meanwhile, Barro’s abilities are further revealed, his weapon, a bow forged from Reishi, can reform itself no matter how damaged it becomes.
Bleach TYBW Part 3 Episode 10 Review And Recap

Here, we go back to the fight between Mayuri and Pernida. Previously, we saw Ashisogi Jizō devouring Pernida, but that obviously backfired, and it completely destroyed the bankai. Some interesting changes occur to the left hand of Soul King as we see it evolve at an alarming speed. Not only is it picking up more vocabulary, but it seems its attacks are also getting sharper. A nerve-attached arrow would have almost hit Mayuri, but at that moment, Nemu comes to his rescue out of nowhere.
Now, this is something that is very interesting because everybody knows that only when Mayuri calls for help does he appreciate being helped. Hence, when Nemu gets involved on her own accord, she doesn’t receive any praise. On the contrary, he scolds her vehemently and warns her not to make judgments of her own, as even her death is something that can only happen when Mayuri orders it.

In this episode, we also take a trip down Nemu’s memory lane as we witness her earliest memory of her creator. It is revealed that before Nemu, there were six other versions of artificial soles that could not sustain themselves after a time. Nemu is the only one who managed to grow from a foetus to an adult woman, almost like a natural human baby. This explains why, despite Mayuri never teaching her about affection, she still developed a sense of it toward him, seeing him as her father figure.

This episode again proved how technically sound the team is behind Bleach. Not only was the animation on point, but even the soundtrack was absolutely phenomenal. I also loved that we are properly shown the complexities behind an enigmatic character like Mayuri, who is a hero with shades of Grey. His demeanour, methods, and outlook on life may come across as villainous, yet he often proves to be the most practical and resourceful in the end.
Verdict

I absolutely love this episode, and I felt a range of emotions while witnessing the interaction between Nemu and Mayuri. The sudden appearance of Szayelaporro as the inner voice of Mayuri was also a masterful touch. This is definitely one of the best episodes of this cour.
