Adhura Ending Explained: Adhura is a horror-thriller TV series created and directed by Ananya Banerjee and Gauravv K. Chawla, produced by Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani, and stars Rasika Dugal, Ishwak Singh, Shrenik Arora, Rahul Dev, K.C. Shankar and others. The series consists of 7 episodes, each with a runtime of around 45 minutes.

The story follows a famous boarding school wherein a student, Vedant, starts to encounter a supernatural entity after being violently bullied one night. As increasingly dangerous situations start to affect everyone, a reunion of the pass-out batch of the school brings Adhiraj and his batchmates back as well. When these two worlds collide, the past threatens to destroy the present in order to get the truth out once and for all.

Adhura Ending Explained

Adhura Episode 1 gives us a rundown of how Nilgiri Valley School operates – bullying is rampant, and students who seem to be “weak” are not taken seriously, even by the staff. No one holds out a helping hand, and the status quo, especially when it concerns those belonging to the affluent students, is strictly maintained, even if it means hampering the growth of the not-so-fortunate.

In the present, Vedant is at the receiving end of the resident bully’s ire, and no one wants to do anything to help him. One such night, after being locked in a locker and left alone, Vedant hears someone walking outside, which turns out to be a spirit who swiftly possesses him. This results in his bully getting taught the lesson of a lifetime.

Meanwhile, ex-student Adhiraj, who only has good memories from his time in Nilgiri Valley, also comes back to the school, majorly in hopes that his best friend Ninad will also be making an appearance. They have bad blood from their time in school, and Adhiraj wants to apologise to his friend and reconnect. However, when he gets there, he is saddened to learn that Ninad has not arrived.

Realising that no one has really heard from Ninad after their last day at school, Adhiraj decides to look into the matter and learn where Ninad’s family home is. However, once he starts digging, he realises that Ninad’s family isn’t easy to find, and he soon comes across one roadblock after another. In the meantime, he snoops around the school with the help of student councillor Supriya, and finds a note that Ninad had written, which mentioned him having to leave school immediately thanks to his grandfather’s illness.

After talking to Ninad’s parents, however, Adhiraj finds out that his grandfather was never sick and that they had not asked for their son to be taken out of school. Adhiraj thus realises that Ninad, or someone, had made the entire thing up and that no one had seen where Ninad went on the last day of school. In between all this in Adhura, mysterious things continue to happen – their batchmates Suyash and Rajat end up dying under mysterious circumstances, all with the same cause of death.

On another note, Vedant’s odd behaviours start to escalate further, and others around him start to become scared of him. However, Supriya, thanks to her own demons from the past, is the only person to believe in Vedant’s innocence and fights on his behalf against everyone.

Towards the end of Adhura, we learn the truth thanks to Adhiraj never giving up on Ninad – on the last day of school, Ninad had tried to tell Adhiraj about his feelings for him. However, Adhiraj, taken aback by the sudden confession, dismisses his friend and runs away from his girlfriend, Malvika (now married to Dev), who was patiently waiting for Adhiraj with a surprise. Heartbroken, Ninad decided to run away from school but was met with Dev, Suyash and Rajat, who mercilessly beat him because, according to Dev, he was the reason why Malvika was sad (Dev always coveted Malvika).

Although they leave him for dead, Ninad was able to pick himself up and walked to Malvika to apologise for how things played out among the three. However, Malvika, jealous of Ninad’s relationship with Adhiraj, started to fight with him and in the ensuing scuffle, she pushed a badly bruised Ninad over the edge, resulting in his death. A traumatised (but unremorseful) Malvika went to Dev to tell him what she has done, and Dev uses his family’s power to hide the entire thing.

Dean Vyas (then coach) and Devi Prasad decided to bury Ninad’s body in the surrounding forest without anyone’s knowledge and used the school’s and Dev’s power and influence to keep the authorities quiet. Unfortunately, with the new wing of the school being constructed, Vyas had to hurry and move the remains from its previous spot in order for no one to find them, which resulted in Ninad’s angry spirit being awakened to exact revenge.

As Adhura comes to an end, all of Ninad’s tormentors are brutally killed off one by one, and Adhiraj finds closure after finally realising that his friend wasn’t really angry at him and that, he simply needed to let him go in order to find peace.

Why did Ninad possess Vedant?

Like him, Vedant is also severely bullied and is ignored by the staff resulting in him suffering in silence. Ninad, thus, tries to help Vedant not face the same fate as him by keeping his tormentors at bay and also uses him to teach his own tormentors a very steep lesson.

What was the deal with Supriya?

Supriya’s story in Adhura was an entirely different thread, and we learn why she was so attached to Vedant. Some time back, a new mother, Supriya and her husband were ecstatic to welcome their baby boy. However, thanks to post-partum depression, she ended up drowning her baby while giving him a bath. When her husband found out, he was grief-stricken and ended up taking his own life. Thus, Supriya finds Vedant as her chance to repent and undo the mistakes of her past and latches on to Vedant to help him.

Who all died at Ninad’s hands and why?

Dean Vyas was murdered for getting rid of Ninad’s body, Suyash and Rajat died for bullying him, Dev died for bullying him as well, and Malvika died for essentially putting in the last nail and for betraying him in spite of being one of Ninad’s closest friends. There were other casualties as well, and they all died after trying to stop Vedant/Ninad from exacting his revenge.

What happened in the end?

In the end, in order to find comfort, Supriya holds a seance which goes horribly wrong, and she ends up getting possessed by a wayward spirit. Elsewhere, as Adhiraj gets on a plane to go back home, he gets a call from Supriya, who asks him to help her before the call is cut off and the lights begin to flicker in the plane.

It probably means that, while wanting to talk to her baby, Supriya and the medium called upon a different vengeful spirit who possessed Supriya. The spirit probably has some connection with her and Adhiraj as well and seems to be targeting them for some reason that is not made clear in the show.
