A Not So Merry Christmas aka Reviviendo La Navidad didn’t fail my expectations. It did bring alive the spirit of Christmas with a mixture of romance, comedy and adventure. The director Mark Alazraki thankfully didn’t add too much Christmas tradition to make the movie look old and less appealing. As expected, the movie had a good ending and made me smile.
The official Netflix description of the movie is, “A curse is placed on grinchy Chuy, who wakes up to find he’s lived a full year but is doomed to remember only Christmas Day. Every year. From now on.” Did Chuy break the curse? Read on to find out what happened in the end.

A Not So Merry Christmas Ending Explained: Chuy’s Life Changes
Chuy who shares his birthday with Jesus Christ hates not being the centre of attention on his special day. I mean, that’s definitely valid. But what Chuy fails to notice is the efforts being made by the people around him to keep him happy as well as celebrate Christmas. As he keeps invalidating the feelings of his family, he gets cursed to repeat every year’s Christmas Eve until he realizes the joy of Christmas.

In the end, of course, the curse gets broken as soon as he understands that the little time he gets to spend with family is worth more than his birthday. So, towards the end, we see how the Diva Godmother breaks the spell with a warning stating that Chuy will hate reality after it. However, Chuy doesn’t give a damn because all he cares about is his spell to break than him bringing a change.
When the spell is broken, he wakes up on another year’s Christmas eve when nobody is at home. He finds that his wife has filed for divorce and his kids have moved out. He also finds out that his mother has sadly passed away. After all the heartbreaking news, Chuy fights to have one last Christmas dinner with the family that is left. He visits his wife’s business and pleads with her for a chance to which she agrees.
Then he visits his son, who left the family due to Chuy hating the fact his son was gay. As we know, Chuy who wakes only on Christmas eve will have no clue about what happened in the remaining days so he tries to apologize for what he doesn’t remember doing. Surprisingly, the son forgives Chuy and introduces his boyfriend.
Then Chuy visits his daughter who has lost faith in her family and pleads with her for forgiveness along with all of Chuy’s family members who he requested to join. They all spend a Christmas dinner on December 28 as he failed to do it on Christmas eve. When the dinner ends, the tiny elves of the diva godmother leap in joy because they all witness that Chuy has changed.
Instantly, the diva godmother breaks the spell truthfully this time and Chuy returns back to the Christmas eve on which he was originally cursed. Chuy ends up shedding tears realizing that he is back again to his young age, kisses his kids, enjoys the birthday cake, happily buys presents for the family, spends the night with his family members earnestly and realizes that family is the true meaning of love. The movie ends with Chuy and his wife sharing a kiss under the mistletoe that Chuy hated.
Wrap-up
A Not So Merry Christmas is definitely a feel-good Christmas movie with light-hearted comedy and romance. The aspects of family love were broken with the help of the Christmas tradition, beautifully. Surprisingly, the implementation of the LGBT+ was also a fresh add-on to a Christmas movie.
