The Guest Ending Explained

Lorenzo and Silvia’s marriage is on the rocks because of his infidelity, but the two decide to stay together and work on their marriage as it’s on the brink of divorce. However, as they try to renew their relationship, a soaking and sobbing Sonia arrives at their doorstep after breaking up with her unfaithful partner. Soon after, it becomes clear that Sonia has ulterior motives for coming inside the house.

With her trying to suss out her friends’ marriage and integrating herself into her life, we are shown that Sonia poisoned Silvia’s therapist and killed him. In the present, Isabela and Juanjo, in a bid to do an internet stunt, end up crashing her father’s car and hitting a man who goes into a coma. The police, of course, are called, and they start to investigate. However, with the pair making it look like Lorenzo’s car was stolen, things get a bit muddled.

What are Sonia’s intentions?

From the first episode, Sonia clearly is shown to have ulterior motives, constantly planning with a man named Libardo, putting up cameras around Silvia’s house and trying to pry her way into her friend’s home. When things start to get slow and complicated, she decides to find a way to seduce Lorenzo to expedite the process. It’s clear that something happened in her past that concerns Lorenzo in some way that affected her and her brother Pepe, and the series slowly opens up about it throughout the runtime.

We eventually realise that Sonia has always wanted Lorenzo for himself, since the first moment they met one another when they were children. She was obsessed with him, and the thought of him with someone else left her furious.

What happens to Isabela?

Isabela starts to get blackmailed a few days after the accident, and the blackmailer asks for 10 million in exchange for their silence. Desperate, they steal one of Sonia’s jewels and try to sell it on the dark web, but Lorenzo eventually finds out that Isabela was the one who orchestrated this whole mess. Lorenzo eventually asks for Sonia’s help to get Isa’s necklace away from the police, but things take a turn when Juanjo checks the video that he took of Isa driving that night and notices that she wasn’t wearing it.

As Lorenzo races against time to figure out who is trying to hurt his daughter, and eventually realises that it’s Matis, not Pia. He is working with Sonia and has been manipulating everything on her instructions from the start. When Sonia realises that he has become a loose end, she and Libardo kill Matias, and Isa has an opioid overdose once again.

In the aftermath, Isabela is taken to a rehab facility, but when the truth of her accident comes out, an investigation starts against her. She is eventually kidnapped from the rehab by Pepe, who takes her to Sonia.

Sonia’s truth finally comes out in episode 18 when Silvia realises that she is being poisoned after a bird dies eating a dish that Sonia prepared for her. Eventually, she goes through Sonia’s room and finds out that she has been stalking the entire family, and she decides to throw her out. Ramirez eventually tells Silvia the truth – Sonia’s real name, Rocio, and her relationship with her Jose.

What happens in the end?

Lorenzo’s family goes up in flames towards the end of The Guest. First, the truth comes out that Lorenzo and Juliana were having an affair, and Gilma accidentally reveals that Miguel is gay. Sonia eventually plants evidence against Lorenzo, and he is arrested when the police search his home. Silvia, too, is kidnapped while Jose pays a visit to Isa as Ibanel tries to transfer Lorenzo, much to Mendez’s confusion.

Mendez eventually lets Lorenzo go so that he can get some hard evidence to corroborate his claims, and he immediately rushes after Isa and Silvia. The latter, on the other hand, realises that Sonia is mentally unwell as she is having a conversation with someone (Libardo) who doesn’t exist. In the end, Lorenzo knocks Pepe unconscious, and after Sonia lights the house on fire with Silvia and Isa inside, she tells him what he did to her, forcing him to apologise and to profess his love for her.

However, she starts to think that Libardo is accusing her of cheating and starts to spiral, resulting in Lorenzo taking her gun and shooting her. The series ends with the family embracing, having left their past burning behind them.
