Lookism Trailer Breakdown: 2 Bodies, One Person and a Fight Against Bullying

Netflix’s upcoming teen anime Lookism which is based on the popular Manhwa of the same name has released its official trailer today and we are certainly looking forward to witnessing the characters come to life in this series. Produced by Studio Mir, the studio behind DOTA: Dragon’s Blood and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, the webtoon is written and illustrated by Park Tae-joon.

Lookism follows the life of a bullied high school outcast who faces contempt each day because of his looks. However, one day he wakes up in the perfect body and also has the ability to switch between the two bodies. The animated series is to deals with the subtle lookism and materialism present in the lives of people living in modern society, just like the manhwa.

The trailer released earlier today shows Park Hyeong-seok waking up in a new body that is the complete opposite of his outcast self and is filled with rejoicing. However, he soon understands that changing his appearance won’t change the people around him and now he wishes to make a change.

The trailer starts off with Park Hyeong-seok finding a new face in the mirror while his real self is sleeping on the side. After a brief of all the bullying, he has experienced till now while being at the bottom of the social food chain, he realises that he is not dreaming at the moment.

He soon finds out that he is awake in his old body while his new body is asleep and the same thing happens vice versa. With this, he is now determined to change his upcoming days with this new body and no longer stay as everyone’s target.

He soon wows all the girls in his class at his new school who cannot help but swoon over his extremely charming looks. However, he also becomes the target of the boys who cannot bear to let him take away the attention of all the girls in class. With a boy named Jin Seong getting all ready to fight, the girls start defending him one by one.

But not every guy is the same as another classmate Hong Jae-yeol takes his side by defending Hyeong-seok. Now in a new body, Hyeong-seok too feels light and is able to bring up his fighting skills and is ready to take a stand for himself.

However, he soon faces the truth about the way he is treated differently in the two bodies which makes him realise how people like his old self are bullied everywhere and everywhere. He starts to notice the people suffering around him and takes a stand to help them out.

Remembering that he is the same person with two different bodies, he is ready with a plan to find out about this we’ll have to watch the show once it is out!
