28 Days Haunted Review: Goofy Ghost Busting

28 Days Haunted is a paranormal reality TV series that follows three teams of paranormal investigators who check out a bunch of haunted locations in America as an experiment around the theories of Ed and Lorraine Warren. The series has 6 episodes, each with a runtime of around 30-40 minutes.

The Netflix description reads:

Three teams each spend 28 days in some of America’s most haunted locations for a paranormal experiment based on the theories of Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Paranormal investigation shows always remind me of Buzzfeed’s Unsolved: Supernatural or Watcher’s Ghost Files. I am a huge fan of shows like these because there’s always something very interesting about going out and trying to find malevolent spirits. What the Ghoul Boys get right, however, is keeping a very nice balance between scepticism and belief in the supernatural.

Now, coming to 28 Days Haunted, there’s no scepticism or even any fun and games. We jump straight into very serious-looking experts trying to find out what is causing the visions and heaviness the moment that they reach their secret haunted locations.

The three different teams comprise people from both genders, albeit all are white. The number varies, and right off the bat, viewers realise that the series is trying to push the “very haunted” narrative forward. The reason why I personally enjoy a mix of scepticism in shows like these is that it feels somewhat real.

However, when it comes to 28 Days Haunted, it feels scripted and forced. People constantly talk about feeling like a spirit is telling or showing them something or that they can see visions of blood and gore. Unfortunately, that is not enough to make viewers believe that there actually is anything to be afraid of. The way that the show comes across is that we are meant to believe these ‘paranormal experts’ without much proof.

The question remains, why should I? It’s difficult for the average viewer to see someone tell them that they felt a ghostly hand on their head and not to think that they are just doing it for the clicks. I think, more importantly, the series is a reminder of those old ghost-busting shows that took themselves too seriously and tried to make us believe that spirits just constantly try to talk to humans and show them bloody sheets.

In the end, 28 Days Haunted is a silly and unbelievable ghost show that you can check out if you’re in the mood for something goofy. It’s definitely not believable in the slightest, and you don’t even feel a bit creeped out. The intensity with which the show wants us to believe it makes you steer away from any sort of believability.

Also, the CGI work is simply shoddy at best. They want you to feel shocked, scared and confused but man, does it look extremely bad and negatively affects the show’s atmosphere.

Summing Up: 28 Days Haunted

28 Days Haunted is a reminder of old ghost-hunting shows that are goofy and feel extremely made up. Regardless or not the place is haunted, nothing really happens that can’t be explained scientifically. So, like, you’re left to just enjoy this for the shits and giggles.

28 Days Haunted is streaming on Netflix.

  1. What are you talking about? They literally used scientific methods to pick up on names that ended up being associated with the actual history of the house. Then pretty obvious noises and lot of sixth sense stuff that we all have. There are ton of tools used in this show that prove or at least confirm the existent of something unseen.

  2. It’s a load of nonsense anyway none of it is reql. The “bangs” are staff making noises, the actors know exactly what supposedly happened at the houses. If that family really was murdered, if i was a living descendant, I’d be pissed if some group of goofy actors was accusing my ancestor of incest and abuse of his own daughter with zero evidence. Bunch of idiots.

  3. I wish they would have sent in regular people who were sceptics. I wish they were allowed to search the house for anything that might suggest the noises, objects moving, cabinets opening, etc were not set up. Doing that would have made the show more believable, but when you have people who believe they are mediums, demon fighters etc, they feed off one another and create a “show” and nothing else. Not even a good show… As far as the tools used to speak to the dead? I have an app on my phone that can do the same thing lol.

  4. Adelaide is definitely believable….who could make that up!?! 😂 and I was so scared when someone touched her forehead n the casket she shoulda never been in – she shoulda been smacked! The tunnel- best he could come up with was they kept them there and fed them thru the 🕳 !? Seriously, he’s a psychic and his first reaction wasnt killer using it as an escape or entry way to and from victims??? I could just go on but only watched 1st and 2nd episode soo bout all I got .

  5. I would have enjoyed finishing this review. However the race card was brought up early on. It’s really getting sickening. There is no oppression in this series. There is no oppression in many series. Maybe when they were screening for the best actors and actresses, these people did a better job. Get over the victim mentality. It’s really not a good look anymore.

  6. I do not agree with you. If you looking for real evidence, it’s never found in things like this. It would even not be believable if they had real evidence. The way things goes in this serie, is just how it’s supposed to be going.

  7. Agreed. How is the “albeit all are white” comment even relevant? Maybe they didn’t have any black people who were down with it. Everything is made about race now and the fact that people are constantly bringing it up are the prejudice ones

  8. Thank you!!!! I was starting to think that no one else had seen that ridiculous end with Jereme looking at the camera as if he was possessed!!!

  9. As a person who is figuring out how to start using the gift of seeing others and feeling them around , I believe jereme did get possessed , I wasn’t scared the whole time watching until day 17 ( I believe it was this day ) came and he decided to try and get Charlie head on , I felt it through the screen and it was only that house or whatever you call it. Something very evil was definitely in that shop. My heart sunk when jereme looked at the screen at the end. I believe that atleast with Jereme and that girl that part was 100% real you can feel it and see it. the other two teams I definitely didn’t feel it. It definitely felt fake for the other ones.

  10. As soon as the author of this article mentioned the race of the investigators I’m immediately put off. Like it’s a fucking ghost show. Why does race matter here. Who’s taking what too seriously again?

  11. The media always portrays whites as being these prejudice, race obsessed, supremicist that hold a lot of spite towards poc… I think it might actually be the other way around. You just never hear a white person, atleast not openly to the world, watch a show like Power and go “…albeit everyones black…”, so perhaps it’s time to come to terms with your racism? It was a bit rude and uncalled for and I can tell you werent raised properly. How small and shameful.

  12. I’m watching this at the moment, and I find myself easily finding excuses to get up or stop watching. As a person who has had moments of feeling entities and certain spikes In energies etc, I’m shocked at how trivial these actors make it seem. As usual it’s a piss take directed to generate views. I’ve noticed a couple of times where a couple of these clowns have tried not to laugh. There’s crew everywhere which are mostly likely the ones creating the bumps and banging… Not to mention all the rigged lighting and audio and visual which can easily be manipulated. Let’s face it, it’s a good show and nothing more.

  13. I am sceptical, and this show has left me a none believer. When he goes to dig up the hot spot, why does it already look like it had been dug up previously ? The rest of the grass was perfectly fine but that one spot was covered in dirt ? Nope. Absolutely fake fake fake

  14. I am a living descendant of Charlie Lawson, whom actually did murder his family EXCEPT the oldest son who was not on the property at the time of the murders. My grandmother, Bessie Mae Lawson whom was born in 1912 and was 11 years old at the time of the gruesome murders that did happen on Christmas Day 1929. There is a book about it, White Christmas Bloody Christmas as well as the Meaning of our Tears. These paranormal investigators accusations of incest was 100% correct. Charlie got his eldest daughter pregnant and the news was about to be spread around the town, he did suffer a head injury several months before and it was believed he was possessed. My grandmother told stories of how his attitude went from happy loving husband and father to very moody, argumentative and lashing out.

  15. Well…. if it’s fake, I’ll be relieved. Honestly. I watched the entire season in one sitting and I specifically never have watched paranormal stuff bc it all seems like bs. I felt like the situation with Jeremy was real. Whatever else might have happened, I know for sure he was suffering medically while there. And when the guy did the deprivation tank…. I’m an empath and I literally had to look away from the image of him opening his eyes bc he couldn’t watch anymore in his consciousness. I almost turned it off… like I said.. I would be thrilled to hear it’s fake lol

  16. “All participants are unaware of anything about the place” Jeremy sits at laptop ONLINE. Oh something’s happening, let’s get out of here. Just a show full of people with “abilities” but only excuses. Was very disappointed.

  17. This show is definitely something to watch if you want “shots and giggles”. Scripted and bad acting . They absolutely know the history of the building before they went in . Jereme is a crappy actor and I don’t know how anyone can keep a straight face through it all .
I’ve seen more believable ghostly encounters in my own house .
Enjoy the hilarity of it . It’s good for a laugh.

  18. The entire show was a crock. I’m sure the stories behind the hauntings are true but everything these people did in the show was bull. Especially Jeremy. My God that story with him and what’s her name was the absolute worst. The man just screaming out Bible verses and having verbal arguments with an evil entity lol. Yoo then he busts out the God helmet. Wait there’s more… then he had heart attack symptoms and went to the hospital. Doctors couldn’t even tell him where those symptoms came from either. Lol maybe his bag ass just has high cholesterol and got himself all worked up for the camera and thought he was about to have a heart attack. Lololol then I get to this review and read the part about the cast being all white. Yo stop with the race baiting crap. If anything black people should be happy as hell they wasn’t put on this show to look a fool. That’s white people problems 😆 what a joke of a show and a joke of a review.

  19. Feel you there sis! You know for me it was like “ok they are just a group of people” which I would have the same reaction if they weren’t all white. I think since you are thinking about a acting crew as how many of them are white and how many not, you are a racist because you are acknowledging a different between them. You need to change your mindset, we are all people.
