Crime Thriller Kdramas Like The Manipulated
One Ordinary Day

In this crime-thriller drama, a college student’s life turns upside down when, one fine day, he becomes the prime suspect of a brutal murder. When ordinary lawyer Shin Joong-han takes on his case, things take a drastic turn that descends into a suffocating look at the justice system and how survival is the only thing that matters.
The drama is a gritty and unflinching look at the justice system and captures all the right emotions, portraying how ordinary people can be crushed by the system that is meant to protect them. Some of the best parts of the drama are the anxiety-inducing interrogation scenes and the protagonist finding it impossible to hold on to reality when everything around him is hellbent on manipulating every little thing.
Big Mouth

An extremely popular 2022 drama that showcases a struggling lawyer getting framed as legendary criminal mastermind “Big Mouse.” While Park Chang-ho starts off as a powerless protagonist who is hunted, watched and cornered by those more powerful, the series takes a dramatic turn as he turns the tables and viewers are left reeling as things change at the blink of an eye.
This Kdrama is simply fantastic and does a great job manipulating different elements like identity, evidence and truth to leave the viewers confused from one episode to the next. Every minute takes a toll as things change from one moment to the next, and no one is truly an ally. Lee Jung-seok is fantastic as the protagonist who transforms under pressure as the series throws one twist after another, revealing bigger and bigger conspiracies underneath.
The Devil Judge

Set in the near future, ruthless judge Kang Yo-han runs a tight courtroom where trials are televised like reality shows. Rife with tension, the courtroom becomes a place for revenge when a dangerous feud starts between Kang and ambitious corporate foundation director Jung Sun-ah, while others strive for justice at whatever the cost.
The drama exposes how easily the truth can be weaponised and engineered to fit the perfect idea for the rich and powerful. The public merely becomes a tool here as the courts are merely for show. The larger-than-life legal battles in this drama are nothing short of engaging, and the different grey characters make the series exciting. There’s also a ton of social commentary on public opinion and manipulation that will hit right at home.
A Shop for Killers

In this drama, a young woman finds herself facing assassins when her uncle mysteriously dies and leaves a shop catering to assassins to her. However, as time progresses, she realises that there was more to her uncle than he ever let on.
Taking a little detour from the legal thrillers, this one, much like The Manipulated, strongly showcases the toll that hidden truths take on people and how deep conspiracies run sometimes. The drama’s atmosphere reflects constant dangers, unanswered questions and the protagonist discovering that they have been part of a larger narrative all along. A Shop For Killers is also a surprisingly sweet watch in a way, but the intense action sequences cut through everything and leave viewers absolutely enamoured.
The Worst of Evil

Set in the 1990s, this drama follows an undercover cop who infiltrates a violent drug syndicate. The deeper he goes, the more the lines blur between his real identity and the one he’s pretending to be.
The drama is an intense story where manipulation and psychological breakdown form the heart. Park Jun-mu’s struggles between protecting his loved ones and doing what’s right against the cartel form a fantastic push-and-pull situation that fans can get behind. The adrenaline-heavy danger and the gory kills are intense and add so much intensity to the runtime. The worldbuilding of the series is also great, where manipulation and violence go hand-in-hand.
