Would You Marry Me Episode 2 Recap
Episode 2 begins with a haunting memory from Woo-joo’s past. As a young boy, he was in a car accident that tragically took his parents’ lives. The memory lingers vividly in his mind, shaping much of who he is today. In the present, Woo-joo finds himself caught off guard when Me-ri suddenly proposes to him. Shocked and suspicious, he dismisses the proposal, accusing her of trying to trick him. His rejection is firm, and their already awkward connection grows even more strained.
Soon after, Woo-joo’s grandmother names him the new heir of Myungsoondang, a traditional confectionery company that has been in the family for generations. This decision instantly makes him the centre of attention, drawing envy and resentment from his relatives. Later, outside a hospital, Woo-joo meets Jin-kyung (played by Shin Seul-ki).

During their encounter, a young girl nearby stumbles, dropping her bag. As Woo-joo bends to help, he notices a small stuffed toy inside. The sight of it triggers a bittersweet memory of the same kind of toy given to him years ago by a mysterious girl while he sat in the hospital after the crash. The moment fills him with nostalgia, though he cannot quite piece together the memory’s full meaning.
The next day, Woo-joo begins his new role as team leader at Myungsoondang. His first meeting quickly turns tense when his cousin accuses him of negligence. It is revealed that the packaging design used for their signature hangwa sweets has an expired copyright. The design was originally created by Me-ri’s company, and the oversight has put Myungsoondang in serious legal trouble.
On the other side, Me-ri faces pressure from her business partner Eung-soo to take legal action. Reluctantly, she files a lawsuit against Woo-joo’s company, demanding five times the original contract amount—about 50 million won. Woo-joo later meets Me-ri in person, hoping to negotiate a settlement and avoid a full-blown legal battle. Their conversation is tense but layered with unspoken emotions. Beneath the conflict, there is still a spark of something unresolved between them.
Under pressure from all sides, Woo-joo reluctantly agrees to a bizarre deal: he will pretend to be Me-ri’s husband for an upcoming department store award ceremony. The goal is to maintain appearances for Me-ri’s business reputation and keep the media from asking unwanted questions.
During the event, a PR employee grows suspicious of their relationship and starts to observe them closely. To avoid being found out, Woo-joo quickly fakes a phone call, claiming he caught African encephalitis during a recent overseas trip. He then asks Me-ri for face masks so that they can stay hidden from recognition. His quick thinking works, and the two manage to pull off the act successfully, even posing for photos together while masked.
Their victory is short-lived. After the ceremony, Sang-hyun, a real estate agent, takes them to the luxury house they supposedly won. He informs them that they cannot sell the property for 90 days and that he will be visiting frequently since he lives nearby. The sudden news leaves both Woo-joo and Me-ri in shock. The situation becomes even more complicated when Woo-joo runs into his aunt and cousin outside the house, just as Sang-hyun casually refers to Me-ri as his wife. The episode closes with Woo-joo caught between lies, family pressure, and a growing tangle of emotions.
Would You Marry Me Episode 2 Review
Episode 2 is a delightful mix of chaos, charm, and complete awkwardness. Woo-joo’s tragic backstory adds some emotional weight, but it’s his constant bad luck that keeps things oddly entertaining. From rejecting a surprise proposal to being named the heir of a family company, his life takes a wild turn in record time. Me-ri’s fiery personality perfectly clashes with Woo-joo’s serious nature, making their bickering feel like a modern romantic comedy of errors. The stuffed toy flashback adds a touch of mystery, but honestly, the episode works best when it leans into its humour and ridiculous coincidences.
The fake marriage setup is where things truly come alive. Watching Woo-joo pretend to be Me-ri’s husband while panicking his way through an award ceremony is pure comedy gold. His desperate excuse about catching African encephalitis just to wear masks is the kind of absurd drama logic that makes this show so much fun. By the end, when they win a luxury house and learn they can’t sell it, you can’t help but laugh at their misfortune. Episode 2 may not move the story far, but it delivers laughs, chemistry, and the promise of even more chaotic romance to come.
