Would You Marry Me Episode 12 Recap

The episode opens with rising tension as Sang-hyun and Sung-woo confront the consequences of the Seoul mayor scandal. Sung-woo coldly insists that Sang-hyun must shoulder the blame since every document, signature and transaction trails back to him. Sang-hyun, bruised by betrayal, gives him one final chance to show even the smallest loyalty. When he asks whether Sung-woo has ever truly considered him a friend, Sung-woo replies “of course”, but instantly undermines it with cruel comments that make it clear he never meant it. Their friendship, already worn thin, finally snaps.

Meanwhile, Wu-ju prepares to expose the truth through a press conference. He emails reporters, practices his speech and tries to steady himself for the fallout. But Sung-woo hears about it almost immediately and orders his legal team to shut it down. They warn Wu-ju that telling the truth does not matter anymore, because company lawyers will sue him regardless. The pressure overwhelms him and he collapses, prompting Me-ri to witness just how badly the situation is affecting him. He pleads with her to help in any way she can.

Sang-hyun, realising what has to be done, eventually sits down for police questioning. Instead of protecting Sung-woo, he exposes everything. His testimony unravels the entire scheme, leaving Sung-woo in a full emotional meltdown.

On another day, Me-ri makes a decisive break. She files the divorce papers and Woo-joo arrives to collect her. They pack up the last of her belongings and leave the house behind for good. Even when the company attempts to lure her back by offering terms she had once longed for, she refuses. She tells them she cannot accept anything built on broken trust and apologises before walking away permanently.

Sang-hyun later meets Jin-gyeong, who has been quietly worrying about him. He tells her he intends to take responsibility only for the actions he personally committed, not for the crimes Sung-woo forced upon him. Her gentleness and pragmatism give him a measure of comfort he hasn’t felt in a long time.

After Woo-joo’s grandmother is discharged from hospital, she asks him to visit. At the same time, Wu-ju finds himself cornered by a reporter who mistakes him for being on a blind date. When she presses him about why the press conference was cancelled, he panics and blurts out the truth in front of his parents. His parents immediately jump to conclusions and, in a misguided attempt to “fix” matters, rush to meet Woo-joo’s grandmother in order to expose Me-ri.

The grandmother, shocked and confused by what she hears, cancels her meeting with Me-ri. Wu-ju tries to apologise for his family’s interference, but the damage is clear. When Me-ri’s own mother learns about the ordeal, she storms into Seoul to confront the other Wu-ju’s mother. The clash between them is loud, messy and long overdue.

In the midst of all this, Sang-hyun meets Jin-gyeong again on a quiet morning. They jog together and he admits that he will be going to jail soon. Before they part ways, he asks her to look after his beloved turtles, trusting her more than anyone else.

Later, during a gentle evening date, Me-ri overhears Woo-joo speaking to his grandmother and assumes he is talking about someone else. But that night he finds her again, carrying a ring his grandmother gave him. He proposes, explaining that his grandmother simply needs time but does not disapprove of her. Me-ri accepts with full sincerity.

Eventually, the grandmother meets Me-ri properly and reveals she had sent the aunt to meet Me-ri’s mother, who adored her. The only delay to the wedding is Woo-joo’s sudden rise as CEO of his grandmother’s company, which leaves them both busy.

Sang-hyun begins serving his sentence, receiving warm, regular letters from Jin-gyeong, who keeps him updated on life and, of course, the turtles.

One year later, under soft sunlight in a beautiful garden, Woo-joo and Me-ri finally marry surrounded by the people they love. Sang-hyun arrives as Jin-gyeong’s date, newly released. Me-ri’s mother’s shop has gone viral and is thriving. The couple walk down the aisle hand in hand, closing the chapter on their struggles and beginning a new life together.

The finale of Would You Marry Me wraps everything up with a heart-warming, slightly chaotic bow, giving viewers exactly the kind of feel-good ending they were hoping for. Me-ri and Woo-joo’s journey, filled with misunderstandings, meddling families and emotional bruises, finally blossoms into something stable and sweet. The proposal scene is pure softness, sprinkled with Woo-joo’s endearing awkwardness and Me-ri’s teary confusion, making it a moment worth rewatching. Even the grandmother, who has spent half the series unconvinced, finally warms up in her own stubbornly adorable way. And in true rom-com fashion, their long-awaited wedding feels like a victory lap — stunning garden, happy tears, and a love story that finally gets to breathe.

What truly elevates the finale is how it treats the supporting characters with care instead of tossing them aside. Sang-hyun’s emotional arc reaches a surprisingly touching close, complete with Jin-gyeong’s loyal letters and his heartfelt reunion after prison. Their dynamic is one of the hidden gems of the episode, quietly romantic and unexpectedly healing. Me-ri’s mum going viral, Woo-joo becoming a CEO, and every loose thread tying itself up into a neat, sparkly finale package makes this episode feel like sipping warm tea after a long storm. It’s cute, uplifting, and exactly the soft landing this drama deserved.
