I think the entire discussion around has really got into our happy couple – Na-eun and Jun-hyeong ask her parents for advise regarding what wedding hall to choose and like clockwork, Na-eun’s mother overthinks about why they want to ask for advice after all of this time. Meanwhile, Na-eun is slowly realising that weddings, or marriages in general, are nothing like dating your significant other and having a good time. It’s about thinking of the future and how to be happy after everything is said and done. According to her, the party is now over!
After her idea of having a destination wedding at Jeju Island is promptly shot down by her mother, they go to tour wedding halls. The one that we see is absolutely magical and Na-eun has an expression that borders on amazement and fear. As she imagines herself in the bridal suite, she immediately thinks about the cost of such a grand venue and also asks Jun-hyeong that they check out the venue that she has selected.

The venue is the one where Na-eun told her friends about getting married to Jun-hyeong and he is absolutely unhappy with the place – compared to the hotel, it definitely does look shabby. As they go back and forth regarding their own choices, Na-eun asks Jun-hyeong why they must get married in a hotel. He doesn’t have a logical reason for it but refuses to give up since it’s something that he wants. (Also, the Bulgasal reference was not lost on me!)
Both try to find ways to get their way with the other and Na-eun comes up with the excuse that her father has objected to a hotel wedding. Jun-hyeong is quite unhappy and we get to see that his mother asked him to have a luxurious wedding in a hotel in order to not embarrass their 800 guests and uphold his family’s image. Unfortunately, he doesn’t tell her this and rather chooses to convince her father.
As they meet her father and share ramen together, Na-eun tries to handle the situation as best as possible but unfortunately, her father has had enough and asks her to just be honest with him. Jun-hyeong, too, looks quite awkward, having realised that Na-eun lied to her about her father being against the hotel. Much to Na-eun’s shock though, her father brings up the difference in their guest list and tells Jun-hyeong that although it might not seem like a big deal, however, people do talk about such things. Na-eun looks heartbroken at the direction the conversation went down but Jun-hyeong already has an idea!

As Na-eun wonders what the idea might be, Jun-hyeong excitedly tries to tell everyone about a small wedding but Na-eun and her father immediately stops him from even uttering that word. It’s hilarious watching the father-daughter duo trying to distract her mother and stop him from saying something that will result in his end.
In the end, Jun-hyeong agrees to think of ways to make her parents comfortable and in a moment full of warmth, Na-eun asks her father to not think of the number of guests or wreaths and if necessary, she will buy wreaths or hire people for him. However, she doesn’t want them to ever overthink these things. Funnily enough, she gets to know that her parents have a sizeable nest egg for her and asks her father why they never mentioned it. He jokingly replies that it’s because she didn’t want help with the wedding.
Meanwhile, Jun-hyeong breaks the news to his mother who does not take it well. He assures her that no one will be insulted and the wedding will go through fine and that he will definitely honour her decision the next time around. Taking the opportunity, she decides to give out the wedding gifts on her own terms to show Na-eun how their family functions. Jun-hyeong, confused with her mother’s threatening tone, half-heartedly agrees.
Welcome to Wedding Hell Episode 5 Review

I think this episode was quite balanced. Communication problems aside, and yes, I have accepted that as a quirk of this couple, the episode really showcases how much planning a wedding can have a toll on the bride and groom. I didn’t think that it was fair of either of them to lie to each other, but I hope they learn from this and come out stronger.
All in all, it was a decent episode, but honestly, I am waiting for the next episode’s drama.
And just, for the love of God, please just communicate better! It’s like they don’t learn!
