Typhoon Family Episode 1 Recap

The episode opens with a breakdown of the Typhoon Trading Company, a growing company contributing to the economy of the country. Meanwhile, we have Kang Tae-poong, the rich heir of their family’s riches, who dances the night away, without a worry in the world. That night, Tae-poong gets into a fight with another boy in the club and ends up in the police station. After his parents get him out, he fights with Jin-young and goes off to a greenhouse to tend to his flowers and forget all of his worries.

With growing concerns over the economic destabilisation, Tae-poong returns home with Mi-sun by taking the train. That day, a big assignment comes in for the company, and although Jin-young contemplates the pros and cons at first, he eventually decides to go for the deal and take a huge risk to go to the next step with his company. That night, Tae-poong learns of a friend’s family going bankrupt and goes searching for him. When he stumbles upon him on the street, he goes out of his way to help him, showcasing how far he is ready to go to help someone he cares for.

The next morning, Jin-young delivers the heartbreaking news that he won’t be able to pay the employees’ wages because one of their companies defaulted, while he has put in all of his resources on the risky deal. The employees, however, seem hopeful that things will get better soon. The stress of the situation, though, results in Jin-young collapsing in the office.

Although the initial diagnosis gives the family hope, by the end of the day, Tae-poong loses his father, while Korea turns to the IMF to ask for a bailout.

Typhoon Family Episode 1: Lee Jun-ho

An introductory episode through and through, I enjoyed Typhoon Family‘s vibes and its general light-hearted attitude. There are several moving parts here, and I am interested to see Tae-poong’s change of worldview and life. Lee Jun-ho makes for a charming protagonist, and his performance as the brat suits him a whole lot! All in all, I am very interested to see where the story goes from here and whether we will be able to hold on to this light vibe after this.
