Stranger Things Trivia: Not Demogorgon, Will Was Going to Kill Bob in Season 2!

It’s true, Stranger Things fans can’t ever rest with their eyes closed. You never know what truth bomb awaits you after a fortnight as writers ready themselves to tantalize the fanbase time and again. With a show like this, you can never guess when the tides are going to turn on a particular character. And so, this time the writers decided to spill some dirt on Will (Noah Schnapp) and Bob (Sean Astin) from Season 2.

A trend that some fans have come to hate is the killing off of new characters every time around, while the old ones dreadfully rejoice in their sinister habitat Hawkings. In Season 2 it was Bob, in Season 3 Billy (Dacre Montgomery), and in Season 4 our most dearly beloved Eddie (Joseph Quinn).

Stranger Things Season 2

As we await the news of Stranger Things Season 5, which has also been declared to be the final season of the show, the writers have tweeted a piece of storm-provoking news, which now seems to be a series that will follow, titled, “Crazy shit that almost happened”. The first reveal of its kind concerns Will and Bob Newby.

We all remember the terrible way he died in the second season. If you don’t, let’s jog our memories a little. Bob was actually the hero who saved the day back, sacrificing himself to the Demodogs while letting the others escape. He was introduced as Joyce Byers’ boyfriend at the time who worked at the RadioShack store.

Throughout the season, he helped the Hawkings gang with his own insight on things related to technology and instantly climbed up in the fan-favorite list. Sean Astin, who helmed the role was already a legend in the world of fantasy series, having played Samwise in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Stranger Things Season 2 Will

It’s obvious that when a show like the Duffer Brothers’ creation is concerned, you can’t simply have a single idea and roll with it. There has to be a list of things planned out in your head before you seal the deal with a final hit. The Stranger Writers have now confirmed that Bob’s cause of death was almost planned out in a different way, something other than the vicious Demodogs – a possessed Will. Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) would’ve taken a major blow to her mental state if this had happened and thankfully it didn’t.

However, it makes a lot of sense because Season 2 was extremely rough for Will’s character, especially since he was possessed by the Mind Flayer, and still continues to be connected to it as has been confirmed in the Season 4 finale as well. Will had become violent to the extent that he felt animosity for his own best friends. Killing Bob would’ve just scarred him for life as if he isn’t already.

Nevertheless, if this had in fact happened, the aftermath would see the Byers family dealing with severe ramifications of the deed. Bob’s death already had a harsh impact on their lives later on, but with Will being responsible, it would’ve completely switched his own character arc. We would’ve seen a lot more of him though, with the story focussing on his mind being controlled. The fans have expressed their sharp critique of the lack of Will in every season, especially since Noah Schapp does a tremendous job playing the character. Maybe this could’ve solved that issue, but ultimately changed the dynamics shared between all of them in the process too.
