Smugglers Movie OTT Release Date Confirmed: Zo In-sung, Kim Hye-soo’s Theatrical Feature to Enter the Streaming Sphere

Ensemble casts always easily become a matter of significant interest among movie buffs, and bringing yet another fix for Hallyu enthusiasts, Disney+ has now confirmed the Smugglers movie OTT release date. The South Korean crime movie (밀수) was initially released in cinemas in July 2023, but now international fans have been granted the opportunity to immerse into the historically-situated action flick with ease and comfort on their small screens.

The Ryoo Seung-wan directorial (also written by Kim Jeong-yeon) was officially invited to be presented at the Toronto International Film Festival 2023 (TIFF) in September. It’s cast and crew have already bagged a few accolades, while they await more pending announcements, like that of the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards set to take place on November 24, 2023.

Smugglers Movie OTT Release Date - Disney+

On November 21, Disney+ started promoting the film’s OTT premiere ahead of the D-Day set for December 2023. The poster so released again sparks our interest in the movie’s star-studded lineup with Zo In-sung of Moving fame, the strong-willed and versatile talents of actress Kim Hye-soo, whom you may have seen before in dramas such as, Juvenile Justice, Under the Queen’s Umbrella, Hyena, Signal and more. Additionally, Sweet Home‘s Go Min-si, SKY Castle‘s Yum Jung-ah, veteran actor Kim Jong-soo and Park Jeong-min of Bleak Night movie fame lead the 2023 film’s narrative set in the 1970s. Park Kyung-hye, Kim Jae-hwa, Park Jun-myeon and Joo Bo-bi also play pivotal roles in the film.

The Smugglers Korean movie is set to release on Disney+ on December 5, 2023.

Its story circles around the “haenyeo” (female divers of Jeju) who get entangled in a smuggling racket in a small sea village. When the female divers of seaside town Guncheon lose their jobs overnight after the establishment of a chemical plant, Kim Hye-soo’s Chun-ja fights to earn her livelihood. On learning about the money haenyeo can make through smuggling, she suggests a new scheme to the clan leader, Jin-sook (Yum Jung-ah). Eventually, these links lead her up to In-sung’s Sergeant Kwon, the smuggling king, and things automatically take a turn for better and worse.
